Aluminum hardness

Aluminum (hard, Al3+) Implicated in Alzheimers disease May interact with phosphates, may cross-link proteins. [Pg.267]

The self-assembly of organoaluminum selenolates and tellurolates, by dative bonding, into supermolecules is remarkable in view of the relatively weak donor properties of selenium and tellurium (soft bases) towards aluminum (hard add). [Pg.116]

Pattemii Creatii Material Contrast. A 30 nm aluminum hard mask was evaporated onto the Ti02- and Si02-coated substrate surfaces with a Balzer BAK 600 coater. [Pg.554]

Material hardness For steels, hardening by working or by heat-treating has little effect on erosion resistance. For pure face centered cubic metals, erosion resistance increases with hardness. Thus, tantalum has twice the erosion resistance of aluminum. (Hardness for pure aluminum is 37 DPH, for tantalum the hardness is 70 DPH.)... [Pg.274]

Aluminum hard hats must never be worn in a warehouse. This type of hard hat offers little impact protection compared to the current thermoplastic models. [Pg.235]

Conclusions. It was concluded that the pitostatic system connectors failed by SCC. The corrodent involved could not be conclusively determined. The stress was caused by forcing the improperly threaded female nut over its fully threaded male counterpart to effect a seal. The pipelike, incomplete threads produced high hoop stresses when torqued down over a fully formed thread. The one connector tested fix-chemical composition was not made of 2024 aluminum alloy as reported but of 2017 aluminum. Hardness and conductivity data on both connectors were compatible with a T351 condition for a 2024 alloy. [Pg.124]

Tantalum is a gray, heavy, and very hard metal. When pure, it is ductile and can be drawn into fine wire, which is used as a filament for evaporating metals such as aluminum. Tantalum is almost completely immune to chemical attack at temperatures below ISOoC, and is attacked only by hydrofluoric acid, acidic solutions containing the fluoride ion, and free sulfur trioxide. Alkalis attack it only slowly. At high temperatures, tantalum becomes much more reactive. The element has a melting point exceeded only by tungsten and rhenium. Tantalum is used to make a variety... [Pg.132]

Aluminum containers are recommended for many appHcations because of the very hard, corrosion-resistant oxide coating. They are deficient in only one respect once the protective skin has been penetrated, aluminum corrosion accelerates. [Pg.349]

Hard baked goods such as cookies and crackers have a relatively low water and high fat content. Water can be absorbed, and the product loses its desirable texture and becomes subject to Hpid rancidity. Packagiag for cookies and crackers includes polyolefin-coextmsion film pouches within paperboard carton sheUs, and polystyrene trays overwrapped with polyethylene or oriented polypropylene film. Soft cookies are packaged in high water-vapor-barrier laminations containing aluminum foil. [Pg.449]

Hard sugar candies have very low moisture content. They are sealed in low water vapor-transmission packaging such as aluminum foil or oriented polypropylene film. [Pg.449]

Barcol Indenter. The Barcol hardness tester is a hand-held, spring-loaded instmment with a steel indenter developed for use on hard plastics and soft metals (ASTM D2583) (2). In use the indenter is forced into the sample surface and a hardness number is read direcdy off the integral dial indicator caUbrated on a 0 to 100 scale. Barcol hardness numbers do not relate to nor can they be converted to other hardness scales. The Barcol instmment is caUbrated at each use by indenting an aluminum ahoy standard disk suppHed with it. The Barcol test is relatively insensitive to surface condition but may be affected by test sample size and thickness. [Pg.467]

Despite variatioas ia hardness test procedures and the variations ia physical properties of the materials tested, hardness conversions from one test to another are possible (see ASTM E140 and Table 2). This approximate relationship is only consistent within a single-material system, eg, iron, steel, or aluminum. [Pg.467]

Many stabilizer systems have been tailored to a particular industry need or for particular areas where dilution water quaUty is poor. These grades are heavily stabilized and may contain organic sequestering agents, ie, staimate, phosphates, and nitrate ions, so that the weak solutions produced by dilution from hard water retain acceptable stabihty. The nitrate is not a stabilizer, but it inhibits corrosion of aluminum storage tanks by chloride ion. [Pg.472]

An advantage of aluminum is the high level of knowledge and the automated production plants stemming from the mass production of A1 substrates for magnetic hard disks these can be widely used for the production of substrate disks for optical data storage. [Pg.157]

Under equiUbrium conditions, magnesium can contain as much as 12.7% aluminum in soHd solution at the eutectic temperature. However, the slow diffusion of aluminum to the grain boundary leads to a coring effect in primary crystals and a hard-phase magnesium—aluminum compound(17 12)... [Pg.330]

Mg yA1 2> or P-(MgAl). Thus aluminum occurs in magnesium alloys both in soHd solution and as the intermediary intermetaUic phase. The latter is clear white and in slight rehef in poHshed and etched samples. In as-cast alloys, the hard phase occurs in massive form, but when precipitated from sohd solution a lamellar stmcture is formed similar to peadite in steel. When produced by aging at low temperatures, it appears as fine particles. [Pg.330]

In commercial alloys, 2inc is usually dissolved in the magnesium matrix and in the hard magnesium—aluminum phase when aluminum is present. Zinc additions to magnesium—aluminum alloys change the eutectic stmcture to a so-called divorced eutectic, characteri2ed by the presence of massive compound particles surrounded by a magnesium-rich sohd solution. [Pg.330]

Another important function of metallic coatings is to provide wear resistance. Hard chromium, electroless nickel, composites of nickel and diamond, or diffusion or vapor-phase deposits of sUicon carbide [409-21-2], SiC , SiC tungsten carbide [56780-56-4], WC and boron carbide [12069-32-8], B4C, are examples. Chemical resistance at high temperatures is provided by aUoys of aluminum and platinum [7440-06-4] or other precious metals (10—14). [Pg.129]
