Irritating material

Comparative primary skin irritation scores of surfactant solutions (15% active content) show various types of sulfosuccinates as being the least irritant materials, well below sodium laureth-3 sulfate. It was also shown that an increase in degree of ethoxylation reduces skin and eye irritation, leading to laureth-3 (lauryl alcohol with 3 mol ethylene oxide) as the ideal organic raw material [17]. The results are given in Fig. 9 for eye irritation and in Fig. 10 for skin irritation. [Pg.537]

Materials that, under emergency conditions, can cause significant irritation Materials that must be preheated before ignition can occur. Materials in this degree require considerable preheating, under all ambient temperature conditions, before ignition and combustion can occur. Materials that in themselves are normally stable, but that can become unstable at elevated temperatures and pressures. [Pg.46]

Poison, Class B A D.O.T. term for liquid, solid, paste, or semisolid substances other than Class A poison of irritating materials that are known or presumed on the basis of animal tests to be so toxic to man as to afford a hazard to health during transportation. [Pg.328]

Each test substance will be screened in order to eliminate potentially corrosive or severely irritating materials from being studied for eye irritation in the rabbit. [Pg.374]

Erythema (development of redness) and itch are basically inflammatory responses of the skin when irritants penetrate into deeper layers of the SC. In the cleansing context this is usually because of a breakdown of the barrier for reasons indicated earlier leading to penetration of irritant materials. Note, however, that it may not be necessary for the surfactant to penetrate into dermal layers to elicit a response. Communication via production of cytokines in the SC can also elicit a response from the dermis 26... [Pg.414]

In addition to fair, ventilation rates are periodically measured, recorded and maintained at approved levels The majority of workers instructed concerning skin-irritating materials. Workers provided with approved personal protective equipment or devices. Use of this equipment is enforced... [Pg.186]

All workers informed about skin-irritating materials. Workers in all cases provided with approved personal protective equipment or devices. The use of proper equipment enforced and facilities available for maintenance. Workers are encouraged to wash skin frequently. Injury record indicates good control... [Pg.186]

NIOSH REL TWA 2.5 mg(F)/m5 DOT CLASSIFICATION 8 Label Corrosive SAFETY PROFILE A corrosive and irritating material to skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of F and POx. See also FLUORIDES. [Pg.1117]

SAFETY PROFILE Experimental reproductive effects. A very irritating material. Questionable carcinogen with experimental tumorigenic data. Mutation data reported. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of SOx and K2S03- See also SULFITES. [Pg.1168]

SAFETY PROFILE A corrosive and irritating material. It hydrolyzes into methanol and sodium hydroxide. May ignite spontaneously in moist air. Flammable when exposed to heat or flame. Ignites on contact with water. Violent reaction with (CHCI3 + CH3OH), (methyl azide + dimethylmalonate), FCIO3. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of Na20. [Pg.1261]

Potassium metabisulfite is used in a variety of foods and pharmaceutical preparations, including oral, otic, rectal, and parenteral preparations. Potassium metabisulfite is considered a very irritating material, and may cause dermatitis on exposed skin. ... [Pg.607]

Cough A cough is a sudden and noisy expulsion of air from the lungs to keep the respiratory passages free of irritating material. -5 penalty on any attempts to perform Skills or Feats that require stealth, silence or a clear voice, such as Move Silently or Intimidate. Verbal spell casting is not possible. [Pg.7]

The carbomers have an excellent safety profile, are generally regarded as essentially nontoxic and non-irritant materials and have been extensively used by the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. In addition, there is no evidence of hypersensitivity or allergic reactions in humans as a result of topical application. [Pg.550]
