It is manufactured by the reaction of 1-aminoanthraquinone with chloro-sulfonic acid to yield l-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid from this, 1-amino-4-bromoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid can be obtained by the reaction with bromine, with ice cooling.
