Alcohol sensitizing agents

Another fulminate, that of silver, is even more sensitive and can detonate while the crystals are still suspended in the solution from which they formed. Silver fulminate is sometimes formed accidently during the process of silvering a glass vessel if alcohol cleaning agents are still present in the vessel. Many accidents from detonation of silver fulminate formed in this manner have occurred. [Pg.49]

The first type of pharmacotherapy for alcohol problems uses compounds that alter the metabolism of alcohol if it is consumed. Peachey and Annis (1985) reviewed these compounds, which they called the alcohol-sensitizing drugs. The most popular of these are disulfiram (trade name Antabuse) and carbimide (Temposil). Antabuse has been in use in the United States since 1948. Temposil, on the other hand, is not available in the United States and is used less frequently overall than Antabuse (NIAAA, 2000). In any case, use of both agents in treatment is based on similar assumptions regarding the psychological effects of their chemical action. [Pg.391]

The monohydrate is stable up to 540°C, but it is very sensitive to reducing agents. It is slightly soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol, and more soluble in aqueous solutions of iodides. It is mainly used in animal and fowl feeds. [Pg.365]

Chelated titanates are made simply by mixing the chelating agent with TYZOR TPT or another alkoxide. The Hberated alcohol is usually left in the product to maintain the products fluidity. The traditional method for transforming carboxylic acids into reactive acylating agents capable of converting alcohols to esters or amines to amides is by formation of the acyl chloride. Molecules devoid of acid-sensitive functional groups can be converted to acyl chlorides with thionyl chloride or phosphorus pentachloride. When milder conditions are necessary, the reaction of the acid or its sodium salt with oxalyl chloride provides the acyl chloride.
