Plenary 79. FI G M Edwards, e-mail address h.g.m.edwards bradford.ac.uk (NIR-FTRS). A review of recent applications of RS to archeology—characterizing ancient pigments, human skin, bone, ivories, teeth, resins, waxes and gums. Aging effects and dating possibilities. Emphasizes use of microscopic Raman. [Pg.1219]

Ammonium chromates and some other solids exhibit aging effects. Material that has been stored for months or years follows a cubic law with respect to time, but fresh materials are about fifth-order. At I99°C (390°F), the Front-Tompkins law was followed. [Pg.2122]

The three polymers studied display remarkable physical aging effects [24], with a strong increase of modulus and changes in the location and intensity of the glass transition. This phenomenon is exemplified in Fig. 17 where the changes of dynamic moduli in a PDEB sample aged for 14 months are very apparent. [Pg.394]

Recycling of the electrolyte from used, damaged, or faulty batteries and reuse in new stacks have gained considerable attention. The electrolyte is an essential constituent from the technical and economic viewpoint, showing extraordinary stability and no ageing effects. [Pg.192]

UV-B causes sunburn, but UV-A damages collagen (connective tissue) and blood vessels, causing aging effects such as wrinkled skin. [Pg.11]

In studies on Pt dotted silicon electrodes, PMC measurements revealed that tiny Pt dots increased the interfacial charge transfer compared with bare silicon surfaces in contact with aqueous electrolytes. However, during an aging effect, the thickness of the oxide layer between the silicon and the platinum dots gradually increased so that the kinetic advantage again decreased with time.11... [Pg.479]

The mean difference between collagen and flesh (A Nco.f) values for the first sacrificed pairs (91 days after birth) is 0.3 1.09%o while that for third pairs (171 days after birth) is 1.4 0.45%o. This result was unanticipated but seems robust. This indicates the relationship between diet and tissue 8 N and age is complex and varies between tissues. Future studies of diet-tissue nitrogen isotope spacing will have to consider age effects. This contrasts with carbon isotopes (Ambrose and Norr 1993), where we have observed little increase in 8 C with age in the same individuals. [Pg.254]

Also, we have noted that patients with unilateral cataracts after trauma or retinal detachment repair typically have very similar RRS carotenoid levels in the normal and in the pseudophakic eye. Thus, we have concluded that there is a decline of macular carotenoids that reaches a low steady state just at the time when the incidence and prevalence of AMD begins to rise dramatically. While this age effect has been noticed sometimes also in other studies using clinical populations and different MP detection methods (Sharifzadeh et al. 2006, Nolan et al. 2007), several groups have reported constant, age-independent MP levels. Examples include reflectance-based population studies in which respective average MP optical densities of 0.23 (Delori et al. 2001), 0.33 (Berendschot et al. 2002), and 0.48 (Berendschot and Van Norren 2004) were determined. [Pg.95]

Let us say the first three samples tested were collected by Lab 2 from their production facility. These samples were retained from actual production lots. An aliquot from each retained jar was removed and shipped to Lab 1 in appropriate sealed containers. METHOD B testing was started at both laboratories the day following receipt of the samples to rule out any possible aging effects. METHOD A testing was performed in Lab 1 on the following day, while the METHOD A testing in Lab 2 occurred a week later. [Pg.173]
