Effect of Ageing

Uncured rubber compounds, aged in the laboratory or external atmosphere, exposed to ozone or UV radiation including sunlight, suffer a reduction in their subsequent cured 

Two types of test geometry have been commonly used for testing tack/autohesion [20]  

1) a butt joint in which the test surfaces are contacted and then pulled apart in tension, 

2) a peeling joint in which joined samples are stripped apart by peeling, usually at an angle of 90 or 180.

The greatest effect of ageing is reflected by the variation in its resistive current, which is rich in the third harmonic. Variation in is used in assessing the condition of an arrester. By conducting laboratory tests to determine the characteristics of an arrester, we can establish a ratio between the total leakage current, IZnO and the content of If, to assess the condition of the arrester. If we can monitor this current, we can monitor the condition of the arrester. Below we discuss briefly one such method by which this component can be separated out.

A considerable area of research has focused on the way in which age can affect performance. This has been prompted by the increasing age of the general workforce. In general, the effects of age on performance will be determined by two factors, namely, characteristics of the particular task and level of experience with it. The thermal resistivities iii Table 2 are at 23.9°C (75°F) and include the effects of aging and settling.

The corticosteroids are administered with caution in older adults because they are more likely to have preexisting conditions such as congestive heart failure, hypertension, osteo-poros s and arthritis which may be worsened by the use of such agents The nurse monitors older adults for exacerbation of existing conditionsduring corticosteroid therapy. In addition, lower dosages may be needed because of the effects of aging, such as decreased muscle mass renal function, and plasma volume.

During the past decade, numerous articles reviewing the effects of aging on pharmacokinetic processes (i.e., absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination) have been published [115 124h]. An outline of the observations made in these reports is supplied in Table 5. The absorption process is the only process that will be covered in depth in this chapter, as this is the process that can most easily be manipulated through formulation techniques.
