Aerospace industry applications

Applications. Superplastic forming and SPF/DB are rapidly gaining acceptance in the aircraft/aerospace industry Applications range from simple clips and brackets to megor airfi ame components and other load-bearing structures. [Pg.724]

Parts of the chapter have earlier been published as Aerospace Industry Applications of Adhesive Bonding Adhesive Bonding, edited by R. D. Adams, Woodhead Publishing Ltd., Cambridge, 2005, pp. 489-527). Reproduced with permission from Woodhead. [Pg.1146]

We have presented a neural network based spectrum classifier (NSC) aimed at ultrasonic resonance spectroscopy. The ultrasonic spectroscopy and the NSC has been evaluated in many industrial applications, such as concrete inspection, testing of aerospace composite structures, ball bearings, and aircraft multi-layer structures. The latter application has been presented in some detail. [Pg.111]

Electrical Applications. The largest application of PTFE is for hookup and hookup-type wire used in electronic equipment in the military and aerospace industries. Coaxial cables, the second largest appHcation, use tapes made from fine powder resins and some from granular resin. Interconnecting wire appHcations include airframes. Other electrical appHcations include computer wire, electrical tape, electrical components, and spaghetti tubing. [Pg.355]

The alloys of titanium utilised in industrial applications have compositional specifications tabulated by ASTM. The ASTM specification number is given in Table 14 for the commercially important alloys. MiUtary specifications are found under MIL-T-9046 and MIL-T-9047, and aerospace material specifications for bar, sheet, tubing, and wine under specification numbers 4900—4980. Every large aircraft company has its own set of alloy specifications. [Pg.109]

The main application lor these alloys is in the aerospace industry. Because of the low density and high siicngih of Utaniuin alloys, they pri... [Pg.206]

Although its cost prohibits its use in many applications, the alkali fuel cell is the primary fuel cell used in the aerospace industry. [Pg.639]

Industrial applications of PEEK take advantage of the outstanding thermal properties, and include use in high-performance automotive and aerospace components, and in printed circuit boards. [Pg.17]

Because of its excellent range of properties and reliability, poly(fluoroalkoxyphosphazene) elastomers are used as seals, gaskets, and shock mounts in demanding military, aerospace, petroleum and industrial applications. In addition, applications under development for this elastomer include fuel hoses for artlc use, coated fabrics for protective clothing, sealants, coatings and medical devices. [Pg.279]

Anodic alumina oxides find steadily growing application in various spheres of technology. Traditionally, they are most popular in civil industrial engineering for producing protective and decorative surface finish in panels and different objects. These applications are well reviewed in the literature.321 Anodic alumina is also widely used in the aircraft and aerospace industry for adhesive bonding of aluminum structures,322-324 composite materials, etc. [Pg.487]

In the late 1970s, Kirchhoff at Dow Chemical Company developed the use of benzocyclobutenes in polymer synthesis and modification. These efforts culminated in 1985 with the issuance of the first patent describing the use of benzocyclobutene in the synthesis of high-molecular-weight polymer.27 Similar work that involved a thermosetting system based on Diels-Alder cycloaddition between terminal benzocyclobutene and alkyne groups,28,29 was reported separately and independently by Tan and Arnold.28 Since these initial discoveries, the field of benzocyclobutene polymers has expanded rapidly and benzocyclobutene chemistry constitutes the basis of a new and versatile approach to the synthesis of high-performance polymers for applications in the electronics and aerospace industries.30... [Pg.286]

Re-usable containers, such as bottles for carbonated soft drinks, made of PEN have high-temperature tolerance for cleaning and sterilizing [79], The inherent UV resistance of PEN creates opportunities for colorless electronic and pharmaceutical packaging, as well as vacuum-metallized products for aerospace, industry and military applications [80, 81]. [Pg.356]

Besides the manufacture of jewellery, gold is used in electronics, dentistry, brazing alloys, the aerospace industry, etc. For several applications gold is alloyed with other metals in order to improve its mechanical properties. [Pg.467]

Observations for cured epoxy resins and resins derived from 1,2-polybutadlene crosslinked with t-butylstyrene are reported. These resins find applications in aerospace industry, including high performance, Kevlar 49, filament wound, pressure vessels on Skylab and the Space Shuttle. [Pg.321]

Imperial Chemical Industries has introduced a new crystalline poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) (structure 4.78). Applications are for compressor plates, valve seats, thrust washers, bearing cages, and pump impellers. In the aerospace industry it is employed as aircraft fairing, fuel valves, and ducting. It is also used in the electrical industry as wire coating and semiconductor wafer carriers. [Pg.119]
