Chem. Descrip. High m.w. polyamide/polyester copolymers Uses Hot-melt adhesive for extrusion of fusible film, monofilament, netting, web, and multifilament, for thin film fusible coatings, for applic. by disp. techniques used in textile industry, adhesive for fusion bonding of textiles, leather, wood, glass, and metals, and misc. applies, incl. automotive interiors, belts, color cones., hats, hose construction, rainwear, shoes, television tubes, wire coating, etc. [Pg.635]

Each fabric has its own particular characteristic vtiiich can be used to advantage in the filtration process. Thus the smooth-surfaced mono- and multifilament (high-twist) cloths are particularly suited to the liquid environment, in the separation of sticky, clogging substances such as sludges or colloids. Retention of such small material depends on a rapidly formed surfece layer of particulates in the reported use of monofilament polyamides for effluent treatment plants [Grove Daveloose, 1982]. Apparently in this application, change firom q>un fibre to woven cloth increased the cloth lifetime from 3 months to 2.5 years The adhesive nature of such solids may be modified by treatment with polyelectrolytes. Quite opposite results can also be experienced, however, where the three-dimensional capture characteristics of staple fibre material is the best option. [Pg.128]

The ability to control the interface is central to successful application of adhesion in a composite. By modifying or tailoring the interface, the improved fundamental adhesion might result in the improved practical adhesion for example, various surface treatments of ultra-high modulus polyethylene fibres used as reinforcemenf in polyester and epoxy composites that changed the values of both monofilament pull-out adhesion and interlaminar shear strength. ... [Pg.187]

The classical work of Borroff and Wake in 1949 on the adhesion between the textile cords and the rubber casing in automobile tyres demonstrated that the only significant factor was the penetration of the fibre ends into the rubber. These fibre ends originated from the natural textile fibre (usually cotton), and it was their absence in synthetic fibres (e.g. nylon monofilament) that caused the difficulty in using these for this product. Any specific interaction between the rubber and the fibre was insignificant and only affected... [Pg.275]

Employing a vacuum-bag technique, atmospheric pressure can be used to hold the skin to the honeycomb during cure. A sandwich of the new skin, a film adhesive and polyester non-woven monofilament fabric (3M-AF 3306 is satisfactory) is placed on the honeycomb. In this case, a film adhesive layer of 0.085 Ib/ft or two layers of 0.06 Ib/ft should be used. The thickness of AF 3306 should not exceed 0.003 in. The vacuum bag is sealed around the damaged area and evacuated, the non-woven fabric providing a conduit for the air pumped out. Elevated pressure may also be required to prevent honeycomb/skin disbond adjacent to the repair area. Complete rebuilding can be done in this way." ... [Pg.404]

In extrusion of PP/PET blends, although PET had lower t than the blends, the blends extruded at higher volumetric rates, indicating that the output was controlled either by melting or the interlayer slip. It was shown that even if the sheath-and-core monofilaments of PP/PET blends could not be oriented (because of poor adhesion between the two polymers), melt blending still produced useful oriented product. The maximum draw ratio for PET was 7, whereas for PP/PET blends it was 11. The dynamic mechanical testing of blend monofilaments, containing le(PET) = 50 and 70 wt.%, indicated that Tg(PET) remained constant and the dynamic moduli were approximately additive. [Pg.631]

These adhesives are available in several forms pellets, monofilament, ground resins, billets, and glue sticks. The pellets and ground resins can be applied with standard bulk hot melt applicators. The monofilaments, first developed by Bostik, are applied with specialized melting equipment. The billets are applied with modified bulk melt equipment which melts only the surface of the billet in contact with a heated... [Pg.483]

These fabric adhesives are available in several forms, most commonly as powders, pellets, films, spun-bonded webs and monofilaments. [Pg.486]
