Adding New Parameters

A measure of sophistication is necessary in order to obtain a reasonable set of parameters. The following steps are recommended in order to address the concerns above. They are ranked approximately best to worst, but it is advisable to use all techniques for the sake of doublechecking your work. Step 9 should [Pg.240]

Find articles describing how new parameters were added to the exact same force held. The procedure will probably be similar for your case. [Pg.241]

If the atom being added has an unusual hybridization, examine the literature in which parameters were derived for that same hybridization. [Pg.241]

If considering transferring parameters from one force held to another, examine the parameters for an atom that is in both force helds already. If the two sets of parameters are not fairly similar, do not use parameters from that force held. [Pg.241]

First determine what parameters will be used for describing bond lengths and angles. Then determine torsional, inversion, and nonbonded interaction parameters. [Pg.241]

Usually goodness of fit is provided by adding new parameters in the model, but it decreases the prediction capability of the retention model and influences on the optimization results of mobile phase composition. [Pg.45]

Each vendor of SPICE simulation software has added features such as Monte Carlo analysis, schematic entry, and post simulation waveform processing, as well as extensive model libraries. In most cases, the manufacturers have modified the algorithms for controlling convergence and have added new parameters or syntax for component models. As a result, each electronic design automaton (EDA) tool vendor has the basic Berkeley SPICE 2 features and a unique set of capabilities and performance enhancements. [Pg.1]

The predictive ability of the model built using the E-optimal calibration subset was compared with randomly selected subsets. For this purpose, the Cp statistic was used to estimate the predictive ability of a model after its expansion by adding new parameters... [Pg.336]

It is occasionally desirable to add new parameters to a molecular mechanics force field. This might mean adding an element that is not in the parameterization set or correctly describing a particular atom in a specihc class of molecules. [Pg.239]

Whereas Freeman and Lewis reported the first comprehensive analysis of hydroxymethylation of phenol, they were not the last to study this system. A number of reports issued since their work have confirmed the general trends that they discovered while differing in some of the relative rates observed [80,84-99], Gardziella et al. have summarized a number of these reports ([18], pp. 29-35). In addition to providing new data under a variety of conditions, the other studies have improved on the accuracy of Freeman and Lewis, provided activation parameters, and added new methodologies for measuring product development [97-99],... [Pg.901]

For commonly encountered conjugated systems like butadiene and benzene, the ad hoc assignment of new parameters is usually preferred as it is simpler than the computationaly more demanding PPP method. For less common conjugated systems the PPP approach is more elegant and has the definite advantage that the common user does not need to worry about assigning new parameters. If the system of interest contains... [Pg.28]

In Chapter 1, two alternative ways were discussed that can be used to develop the structure of a flowsheet. In the first way, an irreducible structure is built by successively adding new features if these can be justified technically and economically. The second way to develop the structure of a flowsheet is to first create a superstructure. This superstructure involves redundant features but includes the structural options that should be considered. This superstructure is then subjected to optimization. The optimization varies the settings of the process parameters (e.g. temperature, flowrate) and also optimizes the structural features. Thus to adopt this approach, both structural and parameter optimization must be carried out. So far, the discussion of optimization has been restricted to parameter optimization. Consider now how structural optimization can be carried out. [Pg.48]

We have also added the capabilities of Dr. Hop-finger s CHEMLAB package( ) which can be used to generate new parameters for analysis or can be used in a more qualitative fashion for conformational analysis based on molecular mechanics. [Pg.301]

Because of all these minor components (e.g., catalysts and inhibitors, added to major ones) the cure of vinyl ester resins is very complex, involving many competitive reactions. There are some new variables to account for, such as the inhibitor and initiator concentrations and induction time. Several papers [81,96,200,201] use the mechanistic approach, claiming that the phenomenological models do not explicitly include these facts, resulting in a new parameter characterization after each change in resin formulation [96]. Despite these arguments, the phenomenological approach is the most widely used and is based on an autocatalytic model which has been successfully applied to epoxy resins. Many authors [30,34,74,199,202,203] proposed the Equation 2.30 to describe the cure kinetic of unsaturated polyesters ... [Pg.106]

Snyder, Glajch and Kirkland [570) introduced two new parameters to describe the selectivity effects in the optimization triangle for LSC. If methylene chloride (MC), acetonitrile (ACN) and methyl t-butyl ether (MtBE) are used as the preferred modifiers in n-hexane, then an empirical solvent selectivity parameter (m) can be defined which is low for methylene chloride and can be made equal for the other two binary solvents. The latter is achieved by adding the appropriate amount of methylene chloride to the hexane-ACN binary. Addition of MC is required at any rate, because hexane and ACN are not miscible in all proportions. By definition we can assume m to equal zero for the hexane-MC binary mixture and m to equal one for the two other binaries. [Pg.216]

At each step, one basis set is added to the set already in use, and a sequence of calculations is performed, each with the added exponential parameters determined by random selection. The set of added parameters that give the lowest energy defines the new basis function, which then becomes a permanent member of the basis set provided the energy improvement is greater than a predetermined increment. This increment is adjusted during the calculation to control convergence. [Pg.21]

For commonly encountered conjugated systems like butadiene and benzene, the ad hoc assignment of new parameters is usually preferred as it is simpler than the... [Pg.28]

Master Data, now in its third edition, is approaching its final length though a few new substituents may be added each year. However, there is plenty of room for new parameters and we expect to add several new sigmas(JL5), Bondi s volume(l6) and some of the Sterimol constants (17) in the next edition. [Pg.330]

The introduction of highly sensitive and automated calorimetric equipment has added new options for the measurement of thermodynamic parameters of protein-hgand interactions. By varying either the temperature - as in differential... [Pg.68]
