An earlier review on 1,5-benzodiazepines was published in Advances in Heterocyclic Chemistry in 1974 (74AHC27).The present article is not an addendum to or an updated version of that article but rather a completely new review. Much newer information is available, and different interpretations have been made about the chemistry of these compounds, so a totally fresh approach was required and has been adopted. There is an article on benzodiazepines in the Weissberger series of volumes on heterocycles, surveying literature up to 1984 (91HC209). [Pg.2]

The preceding discussion was intended for two-component systems. A wide variety of chemical transformations do yield 3multicomponent systems, we will first extend the concept of selectivity to encompass situselectivity (Chapter 11), facioselectivity (Chapter 12), and vectoselectivity (Chapter 13). The specification of the various compositions of 2-, 3-, 4-component mixtures was given previously in Addendum A, Volume 1 (p. 143). [Pg.60]

At the end of Volume 2, we append a generalized system for assigning specific stereodescriptors to stereotopic/paired polycentric planar molecular faces (half-spaces) (Addendum C), and a designation of paired stereotopic molecular faces and stereotopic ligands (at tetrahedral and trigonal carbon atoms) (Addendum D). [Pg.239]

The most widely used NDA instruments rely on the detection of nuclear radiation such as gamma rays and/or neutrons. Physical measurement techniques are also used with available instruments that measure heat, weight, liquid volume, thickness, and light emission/absorption. These physical techniques may be applied by themselves, or they may be used in combination with other nuclear measurements to provide quantitative measurements of the nuclear material. The general reference on the theory and application of passive NDA (PANDA) is given by reference (Reilly et al. 1991) and its addendum (Reilly et al. 2007). [Pg.2906]

Where an addendum is particularly relevant to a portion of the original chapter being reproduced, a margin mark ( ) alerts the reader to refer to the added pages at the end of the chapter. Cross-references to other chapters relate to the original 1995 two-volume work, the tables of contents of which appear at the end of this volume. [Pg.7]

For this 2" edition, I have made only minor modifications to the text for the 1st edition, and essentially not up-dated its content and references. However I have included an addendum with a number of the chapters. These addenda, together with a new chapter, present some of the post-1982 applications of increased-valence theory. Michael Whitehead drew some of the additional valence-bond structures. Although other valence-bond researchers almost never use increased-valence descriptions of electronic structure, I appreciate the significant alternative contributions to valence-bond theory that these researchers have made. However because I am presenting essentially the increased-valence approach to electronic structure, in this volume I refer rarely to their contributions. [Pg.333]
