Acrylic Modifiers

Acrylic impact modifiers are used for rigid PVC (particularly for weatherable building applications) and for engineering thermoplastics (polyamides, PC, PBT, PET). [Pg.191]

Type Application Some typical brand names [Pg.191]

Styrenics Mainly for styrenes and ABS latest types also for polyolefins and engineering plastics can also be used with SMC/BMC Kraton G - Shell [Pg.191]

Olefinic Mainly for PE and PP also for PBTs function as compatibilizers Outral-Ausimont Nordel IP - DuPont/Dow Royaltuf- Uniroyal Exxelor. Escor AT - Exxon [Pg.191]

Polybutadiene PS, ABS Diene - FirestoneKrynac - Bayer Taktene-Bayer [Pg.191]

Arkema s Clearstrength 303H is a methyl methacrylate-butadiene-styrene modifier for unplasticised PVC. Rohm and Haas introduced an all-acrylic impact modifier, called Paraloid KM-348, to the American PVC market in 2001. It was claimed to perform well at lower dose levels than the competition, and was also intended to improve processing by lowering the melt temperature, die pressure and torque level. [Pg.128]

Eliokem introduced two new acrylate terpolymers in granular form in 2002 under the name Sunigum . One is for polar polymers and the other for nonpolar ones. They give thermoplastics a soft touch and a rubber-like appearance, but they also improve heat ageing and weathering. [Pg.128]

BASF has introduced an ASA impact modifier called Luran S 778TE, with a heat distortion temperature of 105 °C. It is said to have excellent outdoor resistance. [Pg.128]

Arkema s Durastrength 500 combines the functions of an impact modifier and a process aid. It is intended for exterior construction products, offering high compatibility with PVC and low plate-out. It is self-lubricating as well as acting as a stabiliser, and it removes the need to use paraffin wax as a lubricant. [Pg.128]

Another Rohm and Haas product, Paraloid KM-348, is claimed to perform well at low dose levels. It also improves processing by lowering the melt temperatme, die pressure and torque level. [Pg.128]

Another manufacturing method involves irradiation by UV light, in which acrylic-modified polyurethane resins are used. Reactive fluorinated oligomers are reviewed in Reference 36. [Pg.151]

Acrylic modifiers for cement impact strength and adhesion to substrates are discussed in reference 211. Both water-soluble acryHc and acrylic emulsion polymers are used in tHe ceramic industry7 as temporary7 binders, deflocculants, and additive components in ceramic bodies and glazes (212) (see Ceramics). [Pg.172]

The primary mode of bonding for a pressure-sensitive adhesive is not chemical or mechanical but rather a polar attraction to the substrate. This always requires pressure to achieve sufficient wet-out onto the surface thereby providing adequate adhesion. The four main varieties of pressure-sensitive adhesives are derived from rubber-based, acrylic, modified acrylic and silicone formulations. Release liners are used to carry the sticky label and enable it to be printed. The release liners are normally paper, treated with a very thin silicone coating to allow the label to be peeled away easily without tearing. Some transfer of the silicone into the adhesive is inevitable. [Pg.326]

It is important that acrylic-modified cement mortars be marketed based on their end-use for example mortars for concrete repair and for use as ceramic tile adhesives are sold as separate products. Therefore, one should not become confused that a single mortar is used for all of the above-mentioned functions. [Pg.121]

Acrylic-modified cement coatings protect atmospherically exposed reinforced concrete structures from attack by chloride ions, oxygen and water. [Pg.121]

Generally, modification is made by adding approximately a 15% level of acrylic latex. Modified asphalt displays improved properties. Acrylic-modified asphalts are used for parking lots, driveways, low-voliune off-highway streets and highway shoulders. [Pg.122]

Vinyl- or acrylic-modified alkyds have been prepared by three distinct methods (10) (1) blending of the two polymer entities (2) copolymerization, or partial copolymerization, involving the unsaturation of the fatty acids and (3) chemical combination of the polymers by other functional groups, which usually results in an ester linkage between the components. [Pg.1197]
