Zizyphi fructus

The methanol extract of zizyphi fructus, that is, the fruits of Zizyphus jujuba, possesses sedative activity. The active principles were identified as nornuciferine and lysicamine. On the other hand, there is also an example of the isolation of cAMP from a higher plant. The dried fruit of the jujube Zizyphus jujuba var. iner-mis) of the family Rhamnaceae is called zizyphi fructus Japanese name, Taiso), and it is used in Kampo medicine. It was reported that this material contains 0.03-0.16 mg/g of cAMP [12]. 

The fruits of Zizyphus jujuba (Rhamnaceae) are consumed directly and also used as a folk medicine in several countries. This material, zizyphi fructus, contains the highest levels of cyclic AMP (1100-500 nmol/g) known from either plant or animal sources (Hikino, 1985). This oriental plant drug also contains high levels of cyclic GMP (30-60 nmol/g). Cyclic AMP may be responsible for the antiallergic activity of this material (Hikino, 1985). 

Ramulus Cinnamomi (Gui Zhi), 9g Radix Paeoniae Lactiflorae (Shao Yao), 9g Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gan Cao), mix-fried, 6g raw Rhizoma Zingiberis (Sheng Jiang), 9g Fructus Zizyphi Jujubae (Da Zao), 12 pieces... 

Method of preparation administration Grind equal amounts of the above medicinals into a fine powder and take 0.5-lg in the early morning on an empty stomach. Follow this with a warm decoction made from 10 pieces of Fructus Zizyphi Jujubae (Da Zao), thus the name of this formula. Except for Red Dates, these ingredients will lose their effectiveness if cooked. 

For post-menstrual pain, add Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Dang Gui), Radix Albus Paeoniae Lactiflorae (Bai Shao), Fructus Zizyphi Jujubae (Da Zao), Folium Artemisiae Argyii (Ai Ye), and Semen Cuscutae (Tu Si Zi). 

For menopausal insomnia with excessive dreams, add Semen Biotae Orientalis (Bat Zi Ren), Semen Zizyphi Spinosae (Suan Zao Ren), mix-fried Radix Glycyrrhizae (Zhi Gan Cao), Fructus Levis Tritici (Fu Xiao Mai), and Fructus Zizyphi Jujubae (Da Zao). 

For menopausal diarrhea caused by emotional upset in turn due to liver qi invading the spleen, add Radix Dioscoreae Oppositae (Shan Yao), Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Bai Zhu), Radix Saussureae Seu Vladimiriae Mu Xiang), Fructus Zizyphi Jujubae Da Zao), and mix-fried Radix Glycyrrhizae Zhi Gan Gao). 

Also, to help protect stomach fluids from these warm, acrid, drying medicinals or to treat a milder condition with less phlegm dampness, one can add Fructus Zizyphi Jujubae (Da Zao) to nourish the stomach. This results in Si Qi Tang (Four [Ingredients for the] Seven [Emotions] Decoction). 

For hot phlegm with irritability, timidity, insomnia, and palpitations, subtract Ginger and Mume and add Caulis In Taeniis Bambusae (Zhu Ru), Fructus Immaturus Citri Seu Ponciri (Zhi Shi), and Fructus Zizyphi Jujubae (Da Zao). This results in Wen Dan Tang (Warm the Gallbladder Decoction). 

For sudden chaos i.e., cholera-like diseases) with vomiting and diarrhea, add Radix Panacis Ginseng Ren Shen), Radix Praeparatus Aconiti Carmichaeli Fu Zi), Rhizoma Coptidis Chinensis Huang Lian), and Fructus Zizyphi Jujubae Da Zao).
