Changing the functionality on the alicyclic ring from an amine to a carboxylic acid leads to a compound that shows antiallergic activity, acting possibly by means of inhibition of the release of allergic mediators. Thus, condensation of acylated indole with cyclohexanone carboxylic acid affords directly oxarbazole (29). ... [Pg.169]

The synthetic P-o-glucopyranoside 30 was converted to the cyanoglucoside rho-diocyanoside A (38a), which was isolated from the underground part of Rhodiola quadrifida (Pall.) Fisch. et Mey. (Crassulaceae) and found to show antiallergic activity in a passive cutaneous anaphylaxis test in rat. Acetylation of 30 gave an acetate (98% yield) which was subjected to ozonolysis to afford the aldehyde 39. The Horner-Emmons reaction of 39 using diethyl (l-cyanoethyl)phosphonate furnished (Z)-40a (32% yield from 30) and ( )-40b (10% yield from 30). The physical... [Pg.259]

The adrenal glands secrete over 50 different steroids, the most important of which are aldosterone and hydrocortisone. Aldosterone causes salt retention in the body. It is not commercially available. Hydrocortisone is useful for its anti-inflammatory and antiallergic activity. Cortisone and its derivatives have similar activity and it is reduced in vivo to hydrocortisone. The two substances are used to treat rheumatoid arthritis. The 11-P-hydroxyl of hydrocortisone is believed to be of major importance in binding to the receptors of enzymes. Anti-inflammatory activity is significantly Increased by various substituents 6a-fluoro, 9a-fluoro, 21-hydroxy, 2a-methyl, 9a-chloro, and a double bond at C-1. [Pg.446]

Commercially available black pepper comes from the entire unripe fruit of a Piper nigrum L. plant and is valued for its pungent taste and aroma. Besides its hot flavor, there are many folk medicine remedies using black pepper. It has antiallergic activity. Piperine strongly inhibits hepatic arylhydrocarbonhydroxylase and UDP-glucuronyl transferase activities. Some proven uses for black pepper extracts are as an insecticide and as a tumor inhibitor. To research claims such as these, it is necessary to isolate the components of pepper. [Pg.921]

Of the investigated 4-oxo-4/f-pyrido[l,2-a]pyrimidines, compound (63 R = H) was moderately active against solid tumors,384 whereas its 7-carboxy derivative showed a weak antiallergic activity in the PCA test.63 The blood sugar level reducing activity of 4-oxo-4tf-pyrido[l,2-a]pyrimidine-3-esters and their derivatives is about one-sixth of that of tolbutamide.136... [Pg.324]

Substituted derivatives of ll-aminoalkylidene-6,1 l-dihydrodibenz[ ]oxepine were prepared and shown to have antiallergic activity <2005W02005288283>. Klaivanolide (5-acetoxy-7-bcnzoyloxymcthyl-7//-oxcpin-2-onc), a novel antiprotozoal bisunsaturated lactone, was isolated from Uvaria klaineana <2002P885>. [Pg.84]
