Wrapping electrical cables

Use Lubricant, adulterant for boiled linseed oil, hot-melt adhesives, printing inks, impregnating paper for wrapping electric cables, core compounds, varnishes. 

Major applications of unsintered polytetrafluoroethylene are as tape in thread sealing and wrapping electrical cables, and as rod and tape in packings. Important properties of PTFE like chemical resistance, broad service temperature, low friction, flexibility, high machine direction strength, and deformability in the cross direction make unsintered fine powder PTFE ideal for these applications. 

Polybutenes enjoy extensive use as adhesives, caulks, sealants, and glaring compounds. They are used as plasticizers in mbber formulations with butyl mbber, SBR, and natural mbber. In linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) blends they induce cling to stretch-wrap films. Polybutenes when modified at their unsaturated end groups with polar fiinctionahty are widely employed in lubricants as dispersants. Blends of polybutene with polyolefins produce semisoHd gels that can be used as potting and electrical cable filling materials. 

About one half of the PTFE resin produced is used in electrical and electronic applications10 with major use for insulation of hookup wire for military and aerospace electronic equipment. PTFE is also used as insulation for airframe and computer wires, as spaghetti tubing, and in electronic components. PTFE tape is used for wrapping coaxial cables. An example of an application of PTFE wrap tape is shown in Figure 4.12.

Use Cements, adhesives, electrical insulating tapes and cable wrapping. 

Electrical grade tape is wrapped around the cable or wire, and then the constmction is sintered to obtain good insulation and electrical properties. The same concept is applied to produce pipe liners, by tape wrapping a cylindrical mandrel. After sintering, the mandrel is removed and the liner is fitted into metal pipe casing. 

Thermoplastic comprised of an alternating copolymer of ethylene and chlorotrifluoroethylene. It has good impact resistance and good abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, weatherability, and electrical properties. It can be molded, extruded, and powder-coated with uses in tubing, cable and wire insulation, valves, pump parts, wraps, and tower packing and chemical equipment applications. 

This elastomer finds many applications in the electrical industry as wire and cable insulation and jacketing plenum cable insulation, oil well wire and cable insulation logging wire jacketing and jacketing for cathodic protection aircraft, mass transit and automotive wire cormectors coil forms resistor sleeves wire tie wraps tapes, tubing and flexible printed circuitry and flat cable. 

Cellophane is used as a general protective wrapping material. Because of its good electrical properties, it is used in wire and cable construction and other electrical products. It also functions as a separator, barrier, or release film in plastic molding and lamination. To make it moisture proof, most of the cellophane film is coated with a lacquer composed of nitrocellulose, plasticizers, resins, and waxes. This coating can also give the cellophane film a heat-sealing property.
