World Vision

The strictly deterministic world vision of classical science led the philosophers (notably I. Kant) to introduce the notion of the two cultures, opposing the deterministic, cold, and rigid science to the humanistic domain of intuitions and unpredictable sentiments. IP and IS strongly state that classical science is dead and that the new science, metamorphosed by new Prigoginian vision of time, would allow, in the long term, a reunification of the two cultures. Indeed, Bergson s creative time is now inscribed into science. It manifests itself at the level of macroscopic thermodynamics through the bifurcations. [Pg.25]

The delivery of humanitarian aid is an attractive and challenging experience for many of the world s health care professionals. Nurses are drawn to relief aid for a number of reasons. The driving force may be religious, altruistic or of an academic nature. Deployments are usually undertaken under the auspices of an ICO such as the United Nations (UN) or NGOs such as Merlin, World Vision, Concern, or Medicines Sans Frontiers. In addition, they may seek employment with organizations such as the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, which has a philosophy of complete impartiality. Additionally, there may be a na-... [Pg.575]

The eyes provide the brain s window on the world. Vision provides most of our sensory input from the time of birth until death. More than 90% of all sensory input comes to us through our eyes. Sensations become perceptions that are the basis of thought, language, ideas, and concepts. Consciousness emerges from the activities in the brain, just as walking emerges from movement of the legs. [Pg.17]

At present, all over the world the X-ray television systems, instruments based on magnetic heat and eddy-current methods are used to check the air-passengers luggage and to check staff when entering the hazardous objects. In banks, security services and etc. the optic-television and endoscopic technical vision systems are widely used. [Pg.911]

Quinacrine (49) is an acridine that was used extensively from the mid-1920s to the end of World War 11. It acts much like chloroquine and is reasonably effective. Because it causes the skin to turn yellow and, in high doses, causes yellow vision, the dmg is no longer in use as an antimalarial. Pyronaridine (77), a 1-azaacridine developed in China, appears to be effective against mefloquine-resistant, but not entirely against chloroquine-resistant, strains of P falciparum. [Pg.274]

In a prophetic vision of our physical world, Richard Feynman issued in 1959 his famous statement "There is plenty of room at the bottom". He was essentially suggesting experiments and technologies which could be performed at extremely small scales. We know nowadays that Feynman s expectations were beyond what has been achieved since he made his prediction. [Pg.107]

P should also minimize distinction.s between conventionally distinct but atomic. primitives (such as space, mass, time, etc.). The vision is to take one more step along the metaphoric road remove jnan from the center of the universe —> remove all privileged frames of reference —> remove all absolutes —> remove all distinction between space and matter—r remove all distinction ( ) Start by eliminating the tacit assumption that whatever physics is self-organizing itself out of the soup of the current crop of physicists is the physics of this universe in short, go from a solipsistic phys-ics to a fundamentally relativistic physics, wherein even physics itself becomes a set (an infinite hierarchical set ) of self-consistent world-views rather than a prescribed set of exactly/uniquely prescribed laws operating independently of all observers. [Pg.704]

Before showing some examples of press releases and their content, we shall briefly shortly sum up all the information given. Most frequently the relationship of microreaction technology to the development of microelectronics is cited, suggesting a similar success story. Expectations are created that some day micro reactors will be mass fabricated at low cost in a similar way. In addition, it is believed that compactness can be achieved as for the integration of functions in the microelectronics world. In this context, often the vision of a shoebox-sized plant or a plant on a desk is given. [Pg.83]
