Woodworking Machinery 29 CFR

Suffice it to say, there would not be an OSH A regulation on woodworking machinery if an extreme hazard did not exist for these fast, sharp, and powerful pieces of machinery. For this reason, specific precautions must be undertaken to prevent injuries. [Pg.463]

Power control devices must be provided on each machine to make it possible for the operator to cut off the power to the machine without leaving his or her position at the point-of-operation. Power controls and operating controls should be located within easy reach of the operator while at his or her regular work location, making it unnecessary for the operator to reach over the cutter to make adjustments. This does not apply to constant pressure controls used only for setup purposes. [Pg.464]

Restarting machinery in operations where injury to the operator might result because motors were to restart after power failures, provision must be made to prevent machines from automatically restarting upon restoration of power. [Pg.464]

Band saw blades must be enclosed and guarded except for the working portion of the blade between the bottom of the guide rolls and the table. Band saw wheels must be fully encased. The outside periphery of the enclosure must be solid. The front and back should be either solid or wire mesh or perforated metal. [Pg.464]

Inverted swing or sliding cut-off saws shall be provided with a hood that will cover the part of the saw that protrudes above the top of the table or material being cut. [Pg.465]
