Wires, multi-layer

Another complication had to be matched when the zinc electrode was made reversible in a battery with unstirred electrolyte or an electrolyte gel, dendritic growth of the electrolytically deposited metal takes place. The formation of dendrites cannot be fully suppressed by the use of current collectors with large surface areas (grids, wire fabrics). However, by using improved separators combined in multi layer arrangements, the danger of short-circuiting is reduced. [Pg.203]

One problem which arises when a detector array is attached to the face of a multi-layer module is the inability of the detector material to absorb forces generated by a mismatch of coefficient of thermal expansion between the detector array material and the module. Furthermore, it is difficult to isolate a fault that may be attributable to either the detector elements, module wiring or processing elements. [Pg.310]

Multi-layer insulation constructions are used. With the high-voltage cable, three separate layers may cover the center conductor. The innermost layer will function as an electric screen, the intermediate layer is usually a PE insulation material, and the outer layer serves as an electric screen. The processing technique can be used for primary and secondary coating where the covering is on metallic conductors or coating previously insulated wires. [Pg.262]

The wire is a woven, multi-layered polymer fabric that forms an endless belt up to 10 metres wide and over 70 metres long. The openings in the wire are about 0.1 mm X 0.1 mm so the wire is not capable of trapping fines and fillers. Instead, free drainage through the wire is progressively impeded by the retention of fibres that in turn trap these materials within the developing web. [Pg.524]

Duske [7] also discussed several other techniques of value for this material. DSC can be used to check the oxidation resistance of the wire insulation by determination of the oxidation induction time (OFT) — an isothermal technique to determine when the oxidation will occur. Thermogravimetry (TG) has also been used to examine the decomposition of the insulation and the effectiveness of flame retardants. TMA is also useful for measuring the diermal expansion of the wire insulation and this technique is also applicable to multi-layered coatings. [Pg.699]

In Equation 11, /> is the frequency-dependent resistivity, b performs with the coil wire radius and s describe the distance between two layers in multi-layer coils. [Pg.68]

Today, mainly multi-layer wires are used. The material now employed is plastic but in some cases bronze or steel are stiU used (Section 6.3.1). A good wire should have over its whole area and for its whole lifetime... [Pg.272]

Various media, woven and nonwoven fabrics, paper, wire mesh and even membranes may be employed for dry panel filters. The most favoured materials are synthetic fibres and glass fibre, in a pad or mat, in multi-layer or pleated form. It is becoming increasingly common practice to coat the media with a viscous agent to ensure high dust retention. [Pg.377]

The wire beads used are produced from a combination of multi-strand copper, zinc or brass coated high-tensile steel wires. The required number of wires are formed into the required shape and then passed through a cross-head extruder to be coated with rubber compound. The coated wire layers are then formed into a coiled ring and the free wire ends secured together. For certain heavy duty applications use is made of either a light weight rubberised fabric or a small fibre filled rubber sheet to cover the joint area. In some cases the bead construction is also partially vulcanised. [Pg.203]

A uncovered wire goes through each layer of the multi-stacked actuator as shown in Fig. 7.17. Each electrode layer is attached to this wire with the conductive epoxy and thus, all layers are connected in parallel. [Pg.189]

There are seven layers in the OSI model, starting with the physical layer handling the raw data transmission over a physical medium. The most common transmission media are twisted pair (copper wires), coaxial cable, and fiber optics. The data link layer, usually implemented in the network adaptors, is above the physical layer and is concerned with the organization of data into frames and the reliable transportation of these frames over a direct link. The specific problems of multi-access links such as channel allocation and collision detection are handled by the data link sub-layer called medium access control (MAC). Reliable frame delivery, frame ordering, and frame retransmission are provided in the layer by sliding window protocols. This is a set of protocols for full-duplex data frame transmission, in which the sender and the receiver both keep windows of frame acknowledgements and send frames only if a certain number of already sent frames were acknowledged by the receiver. The data link layer also includes some error detection and correction functions such as parity bit code and cyclic redundancy code (CRC). [Pg.43]

PI has began to be applied to multi chip module, which can reduce the machine cycle of computer. Cross section of tjpical MCM is shown in Fig. 11 (12). 5 layers of metallization insulated by 15 to 20 ju.m thick PI film is formed on ceramic wiring board. Table 9 is the results of the evaluation of various Pis for MCM (13). Among them, low stress PI, namely low thermal expansion PI, seems to be best balanced except for adhesion and planarity. In the following, recent works to improve these properties of low thermal expansion PI will be introduced. [Pg.390]
