Wickham study

In the original Wickham study, thyroid autoantibodies were measured in 2779 subjects from the small city, Wickham, in the UK (Tunbridge etai, 1977). Both Tg-Ab and Mic-Ab were measured with old assays with relatively low sensitivity. The prevalence of one or both antibodies was 11.2% in females and 2.8% in males. At the followup 20 years later, 26.4% of the participants were antibody positive (Vanderpump et ai, 1996). Possible explanations... 

Studies of the ect of structure are much needed. Initial studies correlated selectivities to the relative numbers of different crystal faces in crystallites and indicated structure sensitivity (21-23), Such studies may need refinement (24), and one important direction is the use of single crystals. A number of papers in this volume deal with this topic (Wickham, etaL Aniga, et al, Schulz and Cox Chen, et oL).

Early electron microscopic studies showed that adenovirus enters cells via receptor-mediated endocytosis (Patterson and Russell, 1983). Consistent with these early morphologic studies, adenovirus uptake into cells was shown to involve dynamin (Wang et al, 1998), a 100-kDa GTPase that regulates endosome formation (Sever et al, 1999 Marks et al, 2001). Roedel (74) proposed an intramolecular chain-transfer or backbiting reaction, such as illustrated in step 1 of Fig. 13, to account for the short-chain branches found in polyethylene. Subsequent infrared (75, 76), pyrol57sis (77), and irradiation (75, 78, 79) studies have shown that these ort branches consist entirdy (within limits of detection) of 2- and 4-carbon units. Inasmuch as Roedel originally predicted that the branches should be mostly 4 and 5 carbons in length, and inasmuch as the absence of methyl, propyl, and amyl branches indicates great specifidty in branch formation, the radical transfer mechanism for short-chain branching has been questioned by Wickham (80) and van dec Molen (43).

C- Li REDOR experiments applied to polymer electrolytes have been conducted by Reichert et who were able to determine carbon-lithium distances in crystalline PEOeLiPFg. In another study, Wickham et al have used the REDOR approach to investigate the microscopic structure of the crystalline domains in PE02oLiTf.The interatomic distances obtained from solid state NMR were reported to be in excellent agreement with the values from X-ray diffraction.
