Weathering-resistant pigments

The development of polyamide led to products with particularly good weathering resistance that meet extreme requirements thanks to special stabilizer systems and weathering resistant pigments (seat buckets for outdoors, unpainted exterior automobile parts). Figure 5.96 [690]. [Pg.508]

Pigments Aftertreatments. The surfaces of pigment particles can have different properties and composition than the particle centers. This disparity can be caused by the absorption of ions during wet milling, eg, the —OH groups, on the surface. In some cases, surfaces are modified intentionaHy to improve the pigments appHcation properties, interaction with the organic matrix, and weather resistance. [Pg.5]

Poly(methyl methacrylate) may be blended with a number of additives. Of these the most important are dyes and pigments and these should be stable to both processing and service conditions. Two particular requirements are, firstly, that when used in castings they should not affect the polymerisation reaction and, secondly, that they should have good weathering resistance. [Pg.409]

One outlet for polypropylene, polyethylene, and polyvinyl chloride waste is plastic lumber. These materials, often containing more than one polymer and a wide variety of additives, provide superior weather resistance in humid environments when compared to natural wood. The azo group (—N=N—) may be replaced by the analogous (—CH=N—) moiety to form an azomethine complex pigment, usually with copper as a chelating metal. The number of commercially available products in this group is also restricted. They typically afford yellow shades. Those species that provide the required lightfastness and weather resistance are used in automotive finishes and other industrial coatings. [Pg.7]

Lightfastness and weatherfastness of quinacridone pigments (Sec. 3.2) deteriorate in the order 2,9 - 3,10 - 4,11 substitution. Merck in Japan has recently patented [16] a process for the production of water and weather-resistant pearlescent pigments produced by coating mica with hydrous zirconia. This is in many ways similar to processes operated in the titanium oxide industry and mentioned previously. The zirconium hydroxide aids dispersion and gives better compatibility with the polymer matrix that it is incorporated in. [Pg.554]
