First P nmr chemical shifts measured by W. C. Dickinson (for POCh. PCl., etc. relative to aq. H. POa) Detergents (using polyphosphates) overtake soap as main washing agent in the USA. (Heavy duty liquid detergents with polyphosphates introduced in 1953.)... [Pg.474]

Several unit processes can be used in the washing process. The soil is mixed with washing agents and extraction agents that remove the contaminants from the soil and transfer them to the extraction fluid. The soil and washwater are then separated. The soil can be further rinsed with clean water. The soil is removed as clean product, ready to put back into the original excavation, and the washwater is ready to be treated by conventional wastewater treatment processes as addressed in the next subsection. [Pg.740]

The only element that was discovered in body fluids (urine). This is plausible, as P plays a main role in all life processes. It is one of the five elements that make up DNA (besides C, H, N, and 0 evolution did not require anything else to code all life). The P-O-P bond, phosphoric acid anhydride, is the universal energy currency in cells. The skeletons of mammals consists of Ca phosphate (hydroxylapatite). The element is encountered in several allotropic modifications white phosphorus (soft, pyrophoric P4, very toxic), red phosphorus (nontoxic, used to make the striking surface of matchboxes), black phosphorus (formed under high pressures). Phosphates are indispensable as fertilizer, but less desirable in washing agents as the waste water is too concentrated with this substance (eutrophication). It has a rich chemistry, is the basis for powerful insecticides, but also for warfare agents. A versatile element. [Pg.40]

Various washing agents, such as high salt concentrations, detergent, buffer, and water, did not desorb more than trace amounts of the p-glucosidase activity from the culture solids (10). However, when the culture solids were sonicated for 10 min and then filtered, the / -glucosi-dase activity was released into the filtrate less than 5% of the activity was left with the solids after sonication (Table I). The / -glucosidase activity released by sonication was found to be almost doubled, to 0.25 /unol PNP mL"1 min"1, as compared with that of the intact cultures. [Pg.332]

A large number of papers on the effectiveness of sodium carboxy-methylcellulose as a washing agent have been published since 1947. The more pertinent studies are summarized in Table I, which indicates the type of detergent or soap used in each case. [Pg.292]

Anionic milling- and washing agent alkyl aryl sulfonate with special amides. Suitable in neutral and ammoniacal processes. Blended with nonionic detergents to shorten rinsing time. [Pg.591]

Buttons on underwear that are expected to possess high resistance to boiling solutions of washing agents and crockery (plates, cups) which must be resistant to the effects of hot water, soap and other washing agents are produced from aminoplasts based on melamine-formaldehyde resin with a cellulo filler [4]. [Pg.37]

Protection from the effect of alkaline solutions (e.g. washing agents) can be provided for glass surface by adsorption of inhibitors introduced in the solution (salts of Be, Sn, Zn, Al, etc.). [Pg.95]

Aryl-substituted oxazoles are strongly fluorescent. In solution they are suitable as luminous substances for liquid scintillation counters and optical brighteners. 4,4 -Bisoxazol-2-ylstilbene is added to washing agents. During the washing process, it is absorbed by the fibers so that the clothes appear to be whiter than white as a result of its blue fluorescence. [Pg.383]
