Selection Bias The volunteers received careful physical and mental screening examinations for contraindications to the planned tests. The health of a volunteer helped to determine the type of test in which he participated. The more healthy men were exposed to the active chemicals, and the less healthy were used as controls and in some cases tested equipment without being exposed to chemicals. Such selection bias means that the men not exposed to chemicals would be expected to have more illness therefore, the likelihood of discovering effects in them (whether early or late) due to the treatments would be smaller. 

Most Collaboration members contribute time and effort without monetary compensation. More than 4000 volunteers help prepare, maintain, and disseminate Cochrane Reviews. Over the past seven years, a long list of government agencies, foundations, universities, and others have provided financial support, though the level of support varies considerably. The Collaboration is exploring ways to secure continuing financial support for its infrastructure to achieve sustainability. 

Consider your own experience with task teams, both within your company and in other contexts such as industry associations, professional committees, or even non-professionai groups such as volunteer or community organizations. Review what worked and didn t work, what you liked and didn t like, and what you found rewarding or frustrating about each experience. This simple exercise helps identify potential pHMIs as well as successful techniques for managing a task team. 

Something we feel very strongly about is that we can have multiple mentors in our lives. Different mentors can provide different gifts. For example, you might have a mentor to help you in your profession, another who stimulates your creativity, another who can teach you to be a better listener, and another who shows you how to be a better volunteer. One of us examined the timely use of three factors (melatonin treatment, exposure to light, physical exercise) to hasten the resynchronization of the sleep-wake cycle in a group of elite sports competitors after a transmeridian flight across 12 time zones (Cardinali et al. 2002). Outdoor light exposure and physical exercise were used to cover symmetrically the phase delay and the phase advance portions of the phase-response curve. Melatonin taken at local bedtime helped to resynchronize the circadian oscillator to the new time. Individual actograms taken from sleep log data showed that all subjects became synchronized in their sleep to the local time in 24-48 h, well in advance of what would be expected in the absence of any treatment (Cardinali et al. 2002). More recently, a retrospective analysis of the data obtained from 134 normal volunteers flying the Buenos Aires - Sydney transpolar route in the past 9 years was published this further supports such a role for exogenous melatonin in resynchronization of sleep cycles (Cardinal et al. 2006).

My day job is as a civil service electrician for the last thirty-four years at the Veteran s Administration hospital. March 5, 2006,1 had thirty-four years with civil service. After duty at the VA hospital, all the rest is a volunteer as a firefighter, rescue worker, or helping the county sheriff and the State Highway Patrol as an interpreter. Basically, I stay pretty busy. The federal government gave us three fire vehicles after the chlorine gas incident because our old equipment was done-in by corrosion caused directly by poison chlorine gas. This gas took the paint and chrome off our fire vehicles so it was unusable for any other purpose what do you think it did to my lungs and body at the same time ... 

Newsletters and support group leaders proved to be fruitful resources for initial contacts, made by telephone prior to my trips.
