Watson s vivid and outspoken account of how he and Crick discovered the structure of DNA (and won themselves a Nobel Prize) - one of the greatest scientific achievements of the century. 

It is known that diagram " Stress - Deformation " ( SD) is more vividly specifying the current metalwork condition. However, such diagram can be obtained only by destructive testing. The suggested non-destructive magnetic method in the report for the evaluation of SD condition and for the prediction of residual resource of metalwork, where the measurement of coercive force (CF) is assumed as a basis. 

However, this process of inductive learning is still not over we arc still far away from understanding and predicting all chemical phenomena. This is most vividly illustrated by our poor knowledge of the tindcsircd side effects of compounds, such as toxicity. Wc still have to strive to increase our knowledge of chemistry,... 

In the endeavor to deepen understanding of chemistry, many an experiment has been performed, and many data have been accumulated. Chapter 6, on databases, gives a vivid picture of the enormous amount of data that have been determined and made accessible. The task is then to derive knowledge from these data by inductive learning. In this context we have to define the terms, data, information, and knowledge, and we do so in a generally accepted manner. 

Chemists usually learn about reactions according to fiinctional groups for example, How can I make an aldehyde and what reactions are known for aldehydes " This is clearly not a very good starting point for classifying reactions. The poor state of affairs in the definition of reaction types is further quite vividly illustrated by the fact that many chemical reactions are identified by being named after their inventor Diels-Alder reaction, Michael addition, Lobry-de Bruyn-van Ekenstein rear-... 

Because of the general validity of Koopmans theorem for closed-shell molecules ionization energies and, as we shall see, the associated vibrational sttucture represent a vivid illustration of the validity of quite simple-minded MO theory of valence electrons. 

The diverse nature of the cyanoacrylate adhesives appHcations illustrates vividly that there is no truly typical appHcation. The number of appHcations ia which these adhesives are used is being expanded daily as technological improvements continue to broaden their capabiUties.

Better antihypertensive effect of P-adrenoceptor blockers is found in patients having high PRA and most are not efficacious in patients having low PRA or in elderly patients. P-Adrenoceptor blockers usually lower arterial blood pressure about 10 mm Hg (1.3 kPa). Side effects include lethargy, dyspnea, nausea, dizziness, headache, impotency, cold hands and feet, vivid dreams and nightmares, bronchospasm, bradycardia, and sleep disturbances.

Voluminous corrosion products are usually absent, as most copper amine complexes are quite soluble. Adjacent to corroded areas, one often finds small amounts of corrosion products and deposits colored a vivid blue-green by compounds containing liberated copper ion.

Technical language and jargon are useful as professional shorthand, but they are barriers to successful communication with the public. Use simple, nontechnical language and vivid, concrete images that communicate on a personal level. Avoid distant, abstract, unfeeling language about deaths, injuries, and illnesses. 

It is, however, much easier to write such statements than to achieve perfection in practice. Some idea of the practical difficulties are vividly illustrated in Figure 8.18 due to Clegg which shows the complex interrelations of process variables in an extrusion process. 

These brief examples of developments in semiconductor technology and optoelectronics are offered to give the flavour of recent semiconductor research. An accessible technical account of MBE and its triumphs can be found in an overview by Cho (1995), while a more impressionistic but very vivid account of Capasso and his researches at Bell Labs is in a popular book by Amato (1997). A very extensive historical survey of the enormous advances in optical and optoelectronic physics , with attention to the materials involved, is in a book chapter by Brown and Pike (1995). 

Defects in arc-grown nanotubes place limitations on their utility. Since defects appear to arise predominantly due to sintering of adjacent nanotubes in the high temperature of the arc, it seemed sensible to try to reduce the extent of sintering by cooling the cathode better[2].
