Purification treatment

Defects in arc-grown nanotubes place limitations on their utility. Since defects appear to arise predominantly due to sintering of adjacent nanotubes in the high temperature of the arc, it seemed sensible to try to reduce the extent of sintering by cooling the cathode better[2]. The most vivid assay for the extent of sintering is the oxidative heat purification treatment of Ebbesen and coworkers[7], in which amorphous carbon and shorter nanoparticles are etched away before nanotubes are substantially shortened. Since, as we proposed, most of the nanoparticle impurities orig-... [Pg.11]

Where RW of basic good quality is supplied as MU for boilers operating at over 15 psig, irrespective of the CR contribution to FW, additional pretreatment and/or purification treatment is required. At the very least, full softening of MU water is needed. [Pg.308]

In specific cases, when long chain compounds such as esters and TAGs have survived and have not yet been hydrolysed or oxidised, it may be useful to carry out soft ionisation techniques in order to fully characterise the structure of these biomarkers by direct infusion into an electrospray source after adapted purification treatments. [Pg.98]

Mettler et al. found that their original procedure was not very convenient for large-scale production of the malonate intermediate 16. Safety precautions required to handle excess solid potassium cyanide were both difficult and expensive. To compound the problem even further, a large amount of Ti02-pyridine complex was generated in the first step of this process. This solid waste material required special purification treatment before its final disposal. [Pg.229]

Several organic solvents, such as MeOH (63,64), ACN-HC104 (65), and CH2C12-HC104 (66) have been used too. However, an extract purification step may follow, because the needed degree of purity is a function of the final analytical technique. The purification treatment of the extract can be divided into two main groups (a) column chromatography with alumina and... [Pg.884]

In some studies, a statistical description of the nanotube dispersion state was obtained from TEM images. For example, Uchida et al. (56) measured the diameter distribution of SWNT bundles in poly(acrylonitrile), with and without a purification treatment involving sonication in methanol. The different bundle diameter distributions (especially the mean diameter) could explain the different composite tensile moduli. Fornes et al. (57) also determined the diameter distribution of SWNTs bundles in a polymer matrix (namely polycarbonate). To improve the contrast in the bright-field TEM images and better measure the bundle diameter, they dissolved the polymer in chloroform and studied the remaining SWNT network. [Pg.60]

Three types of purification treatments are in general use carbonation, sulfitation, and ion exchange. [Pg.186]

Derivation In ores with platinum, gold, copper, etc. Concentrated ores are dissolved in aqua regia after gold and platinum are removed by chemical treatment, palladium is precipitated by ammonia, followed by hydrochloric acid. After further purification treatment, ignition yields palladium metal. [Pg.940]

There have been several studies in which N2 adsorption has been used to determine the effect that purification treatments have on the specific surface area of the bundles [74-76]. [Pg.424]
