Viton®

NIOSH/MSHA-approved respiratory protection devices should be used. For skin protection, use of protective garments and gloves of Viton, Nitrile, or PVA constmction should be made. The acute effects of overexposure to styrene are shown in Table 6 (74). [Pg.487]

Thiols iateract readily with many mbber-containing materials. For this reason, care should be taken ia the selection of gasket and hose materials. Teflon, Kel-F, Viton, or other suitable fluoroelastomers function as gasket materials. Viton is suitable for hoses. Carbon steel is useful for many thiols, although some thiols become very discolored when carbon steel is utilized. In these cases, the use of stainless steel is very desirable. Isolation from air and water also minimizes color formation. 2-Mercaptoethanol and 1,2-ethanedithiol should be stored ia stainless steel (61). [Pg.15]

SmaH quantities of carbon tetrachloride can be shipped in 1, 5, and 55 gaHon (208 L) metal containers. Larger quantities are shipped by tank tmck, tank car, barge, and ship. Seamless stainless steel. Teflon, or seamless bronze hose is recommended with asbestos. Teflon, Viton, or neoprene gaskets. Special precautions should be taken to prevent contact with aluminum, magnesium metal, and their aHoys (48). [Pg.532]

Repeated exposure of skin to Hquid tetrachloroethylene may defat the skin causing dermatitis. When frequent or prolonged contact is likely, gloves of Viton, nitrile mbber, or neoprene should be used, discarding them when they begin to deteriorate. Tetrachloroethylene can cause significant discomfort if splashed in the eyes. Although no serious injury results, it can cause transient, reversible corneal injury. If contact with skin or eyes occurs, foUow standard first-aid practices. [Pg.30]

In the late 1950s, the copolymers of vinyUdene fluoride and hexafluoropropylene, CF2=CFCF3, were developed on a commercial scale by 3M (Fluorel) and by Du Pont (Viton) (5—8). In the 1960s, terpolymers of vinyUdene fluoride, hexafluoropropylene, and tetrafluoroethylene, CF2=CF2, were developed (9) and were commercialized by Du Pont as Viton B. At about the same time, Montedison developed copolymers of vinyUdene fluoride and 1-hydropentafluoropropylene as well as terpolymers of these monomers with tetrafluoroethylene, marketed as Tecnoflon polymers (10,11). [Pg.508]

In the 1960s and 1970s, additional elastomers were developed by Du Pont under the Viton and Kalrez trademarks for improved low temperature and chemical resistance properties using perfluoro(methyl vinyl ether), CF2=CFOCF3, as a comonomer with vinyUdene fluoride and/or tetrafluoroethylene (12,13) (see Fluorine compounds, organic-tethafluoroethylene polypous and copolyp rs). [Pg.508]

Footnotes (a) Gaskets are also available in other materials, such as hydrogenated nitrile, neoprene, butyl rubber, hypalon, silicon rubber to meet various application requirrnents. (b) Viton is a Du Pont Co. trademark for a series of fluoroelastotners based on the copolymer ofvinylidene fluoride and hexafluoropropylene. [Pg.43]

Bromine chloride s reactivity with metals is not as great as that of bromine however, it is comparable to chlorine. Dry BrCl is typically two orders of magnitude less reactive with metals than dry bromine. Most BrCI is less corrosive than bromine. Like chlorine, BrCl is stored and shipped in steel containers. Also, Kynar and Viton plastics and Teflon are preferred over polyvinyl chloride (PVC) when BrCl is in the liquid or vapor states. [Pg.480]
