Utilities Descriptions

Utilities description. The description of utilities shall be defined for their final quality and, where necessary, the surface quality, particularly where the product is in direct contact with the surface. The following utilities are the most pertinent but the list is not limited to ... [Pg.194]

The starting point for obtaining quantitative descriptions of flow phenomena is Newton s second law, which states that the vector sum of forces acting on a body equals the rate of change of momentum of the body. This force balance can be made in many different ways. It may be appHed over a body of finite size or over each infinitesimal portion of the body. It may be utilized in a coordinate system moving with the body (the so-called Lagrangian viewpoint) or in a fixed coordinate system (the Eulerian viewpoint). Described herein is derivation of the equations of motion from the Eulerian viewpoint using the Cartesian coordinate system. The equations in other coordinate systems are described in standard references (1,2). [Pg.87]

Process Description Reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF) processes utilize a membrane that selectively restricts flow of solutes while permitting flow of the solvent. The processes are closely related, and NF is sometimes called loose RO. They are kinetic processes, not equilibrium processes. The solvent is almost always water. [Pg.2034]

Once the candidate corrective measure alternatives have been identified, a more detailed evaluation of each alternative needs to be undertaken. From an engineering perspective, the first step in the evaluation process would include the development of a conceptual design for each alternative. The conceptual design would consist of a process description, a process flow diagram and a layout drawing. Preliminary sizing of equipment and utility and land requirements would be developed. In addition, chemical requirements and residuals produced can be estimated. From the conceptual design, permitability and residuals disposal issues can be identified and addressed. [Pg.140]

Technology Description Fluidized bed incinerators utilize a very turbulent bed of inert granular material (usually sand) to improve the transfer of heat to the waste streams to be incinerated. Air is blown through the granular bed materials until they are "suspended" and able to move and mix in a manner similar to a fluid, i.e., they are "fluidized".In this manner, the heated bed particles come in intimate contact with the wastes being burned. The process requires that the waste be fed into multiple injection ports for successful treatment. Advantages... [Pg.163]

The example shown in Eq. (6.5) was conducted using 0.5 mole of bis-(2-mer-captoethyl) ether and 0.5 mole of 1,8-dichloro-3,6-dioxaoctane. The base was sodium hydroxide (1 mole) and between 900 and 2,000 mL of ethanol were used. The exact quantity of ethanol used in this synthesis is not clear from the experimental description. The reaction time was somewhere between 7 and 14 hours (again, unspecified), after which time the product (6) was isolated by vacuum distillation, as a viscous oil, in 27% yield. Similar approaches were utilized by this group for the synthesis of other analogs ". ... [Pg.269]

The intention of this chapter has been to provide an overview of analytical methods for predicting and reducing human error in CPI tasks. The data collection methods and ergonomics checklists are useful in generating operational data about the characteristics of the task, the skills and experience required, and the interaction between the worker and the task. Task analysis methods organize these data into a coherent description or representation of the objectives and work methods required to carry out the task. This task description is subsequently utilized in human error analysis methods to examine the possible errors that can occur during a task. [Pg.200]

This report is a statistical description of pipe system failures. The characteristics of these failures have been derived from reports submitted by the utilities to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The bulk of the data is from Licensee Event Reports supplemented as necessary by plant outage and maintenance data. [Pg.114]

Compare atomic charges and electrostatic potential maps for the three cations. For each, is the charge localized or delocalized Is it associated with an empty a-type or Tt-type orbital Examine the lowest-unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of each cation. Draw all of the resonance contributors needed for a complete description of each cation. Assign the hybridization of the C" atom, and describe how each orbital on this atom is utilized (o bond, n bond, empty). How do you explain the benzene ring effects that you observe ... [Pg.97]
