Daneshgari F, Moore C, Frinjari H, Babineau D. Patient related risk factors for recurrent stress urinary incontinence surgery in women treated at a tertiary care center. J Urol 2006 176(4 Ptl) 1493-9. [Pg.61]

Polytetrafluoroethylene (Polytef) is widely used in industry. Teflon is used in household appliances to avoid sticking of food. Polytef paste is used for a variety of medical purposes, including replacement grafts in vascular surgery, vocal cord or fold augmentation, and correction of vesicoureteric reflux and urinary incontinence. [Pg.2898]

The diagnosis and treatment of bladder dysfunction and urinary incontinence in horses is rather primitive compared with that in human patients with these problems (Wise Cardozo 1994). In humans, the management of these conditions includes a variety of procedures (e.g. exercises, behavioral therapy and surgery) as well as adjunctive drug treatment. Finally, urine scalding is not a problem in human patients with incontinence because they can either wear protective garments or be taught to self-catheterize. [Pg.169]

Surgery for rectal cancer depends on the area involved. Although less than 33% of these patients require permanent colostomy, frequent complications include urinary retention, incontinence, impotence, andlocoregional recurrence. [Pg.704]

Class 128 Surgery— includes Respiratory Method or Device and Liquid Medicament Atomizer or Sprayer. Class 600 Surgery—includes Diagnostic Testing Radioactive Substance Applied to Body for Therapy and Body Inserted Urinary or Colonic Incontinent Device or Treatment. [Pg.251]

Functional incontinence is not caused by bladder- or urethra-specific factors. Rather, in patients with conditions such as dementia or cognitive or mobility deficits, the UI is linked to the primary disease process more than any extrinsic or intrinsic deficit of the lower urinary tract. An example of functional incontinence occurs in the postoperative orthopedic surgery patient. Following extensive orthopedic reconstructions such as total hip arthroplasty, patients are often immobile secondary to pain or traction. Therefore the patient may be unable to access toileting facilities in a reasonable period of time and may become incontinent as a result. The treatment of this type of UI may involve only placing a urinal or commode at the bedside that allows for simplified access to toileting. [Pg.1549]
