Upper deck

In double-deck kilns, green malt is dried on the upper deck to 10—20% moisture with influent air temperature of 40—60°C during the first half of the... [Pg.480]

In strong sunlight, water can evaporate at defects in coatings and surface films, and lead to concentration and crystallization of salts (e.g., in the upper decks of the ship). This can damage surface films, giving rise to local anodes. This is the case when a ship slowly rises in the water on unloading and is later reimmersed on loading. [Pg.394]

This decision was a serious mistake. Many heat exchangers in this area were manufactured of a very corrosion-resistant but brittle graphite material. Other problems in January 1981 allowed a hot, vaporized, combustible heat-transfer oil into the system which normally only contained a nonflammable solvent and acidic gases. A graphite condenser head fractured, and a vapor cloud of combustible heat transfer fluid escaped, ignited and resulted in an intense fire on an upper deck. There were no injuries, but property damages exceeded 500,000 (U.S. 1981). [Pg.182]

The NS 900 put into operation in 1970 was the very first vessel of designs 705 and 705K. In 1972 because of failure of NS primary circuit s auxiliary pipelines and impossibility of their repair, the NS was taken out of service after expiration of only 10% of fuel lifetime in the reactor. The RC was cut out of NS, and free cavities of the primary circuit were filled with preservative agents on furfurol basis. A bitumen-layer of about 1000 mm was laid over the whole surface of the upper deck of RC including the reactor upper head. Under such condition the RC is to be stored with nuclear fuel for long within the waterborne storage center. Some characteristics of NS, design 705, are demonstrated in Tables 3, 4 and 5. [Pg.133]

Heavy pivot guns as 11-inch, on upper decks, are mounted on a i> culiar carriage, wmeh enables them to bo directed to any point around the circle by means of side tackles and in and out tackles hooked to bolts appropriately placed around the deck. [Pg.164]

Ball-deck screens are used where pegging is a problem. Elastomer balls are trapped below the upper deck by a coarser lower deck which causes the balls to impinge on the lower surface of the upper deck, thereby displacing pegged particles. [Pg.48]

Installation of the circulatory ventilator Circulatory ventilator is fixed on the circulatory duct s shelf. Place one circulatory ventilator on the lower deck and two on the upper deck. The interval distance is 0.2 m among the ventilators and ventilator on the lower deck is 0.3 m away from the lane s floor. There is a silencer on both the exit and entrance of the ventilators. Air regulator is set at the entrance of the ventilator. A sealed cover is placed at the entrance of the alternate ventilator... [Pg.44]

In July 2005, London was subjected to a series of terrorist attacks Bombs exploded on the public transport network at rush hour. Three bombs were detonated on trains in the London Undergroimd and one was detonated on the upper deck of a bus. It was initially thought that military-grade plastic explosives had been used in the attack on 7 July because it appeared that the explosions had been synchronised. However, it was later determined that the bombs were homemade devices consisting of triacetone triperox-ide (TATP). TATP is a peroxide-based explosive that is highly susceptible to shock, heat, and friction and is one of if not the most sensitive explosives known (Bubnikova et al. 2005). [Pg.225]

A potential incident creates the possibility of an event, but nothing actually happens. The key difference between a near miss and a potential incident is that, with a near miss, an event did take place but the consequences were minor. With a potential incident, nothing happened at aU. For example, if a worker drops a wrench from an upper deck and it hits the floor three stories below but no one is hurt then a near miss has taken place. If the same worker holds the same wrench such that, were he to drop it, it would fall, then he has created a potential incident. [Pg.457]

As the Drottningholm berthed, at 1 p.m. on January 16, Laura Fermi saw Bohr on an upper deck leaning on the railing searching the crowd. She... [Pg.264]

This method is most widely used to repair fishing vessels. This type of vessel often operates thousands of kilometers from home ports. When back home, crews are comparatively idle and may be engaged in repair and maintenance works. Six to seven days is the average time required to repair a fishing boat s upper deck while the vessel is afloat. [Pg.344]

The top part of reactor is composed of small and large steel plate decks with thermal shielding. Concrete for neutron shielding on the upper deck is not necessary since there is a sodium layer 8m deep over the top of core. [Pg.536]

The all-welded vessel of the floating power unit has ice reinforcement and special facilities for towing and mooring. The floating power unit vessel is divided into tight compartments by watertight bulkheads reaching the upper deck. [Pg.295]

The confined volume for a multi-level unit in a chemical plant is very frequently the volume within the structural steel framework supporting the equipment, with possible exceptions where there are ground level items, such as towers, adjoining a multi-level unit. Frequently, the uppermost level of a multi-level unit has very little equipment, and it is overly conservative to extend the confined volume all the way up to the top of the equipment on the upper deck. A reasonable judgment must be made during a site inspection based on the freedom with which a flame can expand away from a confined zone. [Pg.151]

As emergency situation conducted analysis result it was found out that the hull destmction of the tanker Nakhodka began from the upper deck then there began the bottom destmction and both cracks came together. For finding out the reasons having caused the deck destmction the vessel dynamics evaluation was carried out. [Pg.20]
