Energy Act, National

At the federal level. Congress passed the National Energy Act of 1978, which was composed of five different statutes (1) the Public Utilities Regulatory Policy Act (PURPA), (2) the National Energy Tax Act, (3) the National Energy Conseiwation Policy... [Pg.410]

The intent of Congress to more stringently restrict oil imports appears in the Powerplant and Industrial Fuel Use Act (FUA) (3), now part of the National Energy Act (NEA). The new legislation removes the burden of proof from the government in justifying conversion from oil and gas to coal. Instead, it is now incumbent upon the stationary source to demonstrate why it cannot make the conversion. [Pg.80]

Secretary Schlesinger stepped into the breach and announced in December of 1978 that the Department of Energy wanted industries and utilities that now burn oil to switch in the short term (three to five years) to natural gas, not coal as called for by the National Energy Act. Such a revised policy, would reduce the U.S. dependence on imported oil and strengthen the dollar. [Pg.152]

The natural gas price is not reacting to what you might consider a free-market situation. I contend that it will eventually if the amendments to the Natural Gas Act that were part of the National Energy Act last year are not altered significantly. [Pg.228]

Closed Loop Biomass - As defined by the Comprehensive National Energy Act of 1992 (or the Energy Policy Act EPAct) any organic matter from a plant which is planted for the exclusive purpose of being used to produce energy." This does not include wood or agricultural wastes or standing timber. [Pg.321]

Under the National Energy PoHcy Act of 1992 nonpetroleum-based transportation fuels are to be introduced in the United States. Such fuels include natural gas (see Gas, natural), Hquefied petroleum gas (qv) (LPG), methanol (qv), ethanol (qv), and hydrogen (qv), although hydrogen fuels are not expected to be a factor until after the year 2000 (see also Alcohol fuels Hydrogen energy). [Pg.492]

The prospect of a patchwork of state standards became a cause of great concern to manufacturers. When President Jimmy Carter was elected, he proposed that mandatoi y standards be set by the Department of Energy (DOE) to replace the voluntary efficiency targets. Wliile opposing mandatory standards at the federal level, manufacturers acquiesced to the National Energy Conservation and Policy Act (NECPA) of 1978, which required DOE to set appliance efficiency standards for residential products. In return, manufacturers were able to obtain a requirement for DOE to evaluate the impacts on manufacturers that standards would impose and to consider them in setting the standards. [Pg.78]

Most scientists do not debate whether global warming has occurred, they accept it, but the cause of the warming and future projections about the results is questioned. The proposed National Energy Policy Act of 1988,... [Pg.53]

REGULATORYAGENCIES - CHEMICAL PROCESS INDUSTRY] (Vol21) National Energy Policy Act... [Pg.661]

Over a number of years, the photovoltaic cell developers received large financial incentives from the U.S. government, For example, the National Photovoltaics Act of 1978 was passed by the IT.S. Congress, which authorized an expenditure of 1.5 billion for research, development, and demonstration of solar cell systems for converting sunlight into electric power, Also, in connection with the Federal Non-Nuclear Energy Research and Development Act of 1974, which established the concept of net... [Pg.1513]

Legal impediments to development of a new waste classification system would be ignored. These include, for example, the distinction between radioactive waste that arises from operations of the nuclear fuel-cycle and NARM waste, which is based on provisions of AEA, the distinction between radioactive and hazardous chemical wastes, which is based on provisions of AEA and RCRA, and the provision in the National Energy Policy Act that prohibits NRC from establishing a general class of exempt radioactive waste. [Pg.28]
