Underwater coatings

Uses. On account of their high water resistance, chlorinated rubber paints are used for underwater coatings on steel and concrete (e.g., water storage vessels, swimming pools, sewage systems, harbor installations, and docks). The chemical resistance is... [Pg.21]

The main area of use of chlorinated rubber paints is for underwater coatings on ships (see also Section 11.4). Favorable properties for this application are high water resistance, rapid drying (which is independent of the external temperature in the shipyard), good mutual adhesion of the individual layers, and the fact that old coats of paint can easily be renewed. [Pg.22]

Radome Also called radiation dome. It is a cover for a microwave antenna used to protect the antenna from the environment on the ground, underwater, and in the air (aircraft nose cone, etc.). The dome is basically transparent to electromagnetic radiation and structurally strong. Different materials have been used such as wood, rubber-coated air-supported fabric, etc. The most popular is the use of glass fiber-TS polyester RPs. The shape of the dome, that is usually spherical, is designed not to interfere with the radiation. [Pg.642]

There are complications however. The cathodic potential effectively stops corrosion on the metal substrate but it also contributes to early debonding of adherends, the development of leak paths under seals, and the blistering and peeling of coatings. Degradation of protective coatings is a basic life-limiting problem for underwater equipment exposed to a cathodic potential. [Pg.169]

The study on the characterization of alkaline silver-zinc cells and composite electrodes for such cells was carried out [349, 350]. The improved silver-zinc battery with new developments in additives (Bi203) to the negative electrode and separator coatings for underwater... [Pg.750]

From Eq.21 it follows that the imaginary party of the effective bulk modulus K is much larger than the imaginary part of K. Therefore, sound waves are strongly attenuated in this type of material. The viscoelastic polymer-air microbubbles composites are particularly useful in the design of broadband, transition type anechoic coatings for underwater... [Pg.194]

Zinc dust coatings are utilized in large quantities for the protection of structural steel, also including underwater steel construction and ship building [5.56]. Zinc dust is used in organic and inorganic binder systems (alkali silicates, ethyl silicates) [5.56, 5.105]. [Pg.226]
