Ultra high pressure treatment

This method (ultra-high pressure treatment UHP) for the aseptic processing of food stuffs and other organic products still appears to be some way from extended application. [Pg.14]

Skapska et al. (2004) observed the changes in the volatiles of coriander induced by ultra-high pressure (UHP) heat treatment in helium. The treatments did not affect the total essential oil content. The most important sensory constituent (linalool) was not significantly affected by the treatments. Several monoterpenes (sabinene, myrcene, limonene, y-terpinene and oc-terpinolene) decreased in pressurized samples and increased in non-pressurized samples. [Pg.197]

The casein micelle is an example of a naturally occurring nanoparticle formed when the different types of caseins (asl, 0 2, (5, and k) self-assem-ble around amorphous calcium phosphate. This allows it to be a natural carrier for calcium. The casein micelle also serves as a carrier for hydro-phobic bioactives (Livney and Dalgleish, 2007). Treatments such as ultra-high pressure have been reported to alter the structural characteristics of the casein micelle by partially removing parts of the surface of the casein (Sandra and Dalgleish, 2005). Altering the surface properties of these nanoparticles is expected to alter their functional properties. [Pg.193]

Bayliss and co-workers [10] combined ultra-high flow rates, parallel LC columns, a multiplex electrospray source, and mass spectrometric detection for the rapid determination of pharmaceuticals in plasma using four narrow bore (50 mm x 1 mm, 30 pm Oasis HLB) or capillary (50 mm x 0.18 mm, 25 pm Oasis HLB) HPLC columns with large particle sizes (to avoid high system back-pressure) in parallel with a multiple probe injector and a MUX MS interface. Small sample aliquots were injected directly into the system without sample pre-treatment procedure, obtaining very low limits of quantification (from 1 to 5 ng/mL). [Pg.51]

Although the state of adsorbed ethylene on the Pt(lll) single-crystal surface under ultra-high vacuum conditions is rather well characterized, it is not clear that the species found on single-crystal surfrices is necessarily that present under high pressures of ethylene on supported Pt crystallites. Because NMR spectroscopy is applicable to supported catalysts even under h%h pressures, we have chosen to study the formation of carbonaceous deposits on silica-supported Pt catalysts heavily dosed with ethylene. By monitoring the evolution of the surface species on Pt using the NMR technique after beat treatment of catalyst samples at various temperatures, we have been able to characterize the coke-precursors. [Pg.580]

Transparent colored YAG ceramics doped with Ti and Zr ions as possible broad-band materials for tunable and ultra-short pulses lasers were obtained. The procedure of doped ceramics fabrication included chemical co-precipitation, precursors heat treatment, YAG powder grinding, high pressure colloidal slip-casting for nanopowders compaction and vacuum sintering of performs at 1730-1800 C. Absorption spectra of Zr ceramics samples are similar to the spectra of correspondingly doped YAG single crystals. Zr luminescence was observed for the first time. Possibility to obtain laser action is discussed. [Pg.632]
