Understanding the operating mechanism of PLEDs is complicated by the two-carrier nature of these diodes. In order to study the details of the carrier injection, single-carrier devices were fabricated in which the current density of one of the carriers was reduced to negligible levels. [Pg.162]

Water is always present in the production of namral gas in both the liquid and vapor phases. If water liquid is present, molecules at the surface tend to escape into the space above. These molecules become vapor and are free to mix with the other constiment gases in the stream. Ultimately, an equilibrium, or steady state of balance is attained when the rate of escape and rate of return into solution are equal. When this condition occurs, the gas is said to be saturated with water vapor. For any gas, this condition of balance or samration is directly proportional to the temperature (Boyles Law, Ti=V] as T2=V2). The greater the temperature of the carrier natural gas, the greater the volume of water that can be absorbed into solution. Conversely, as the temperature of a gas begins to drop, the kinetic energy of the fluid deeieases. As this happens, the water vapor begins to condense and return to the liquid phase. [Pg.223]

The carrier nature is clearly evidenced to affect directly the activity of the immobilized urease, the maximum being directly proportional to the matrix hydrophilicity 4-aminobenzylcellulose (DS 0.6)=7.5% 4-aminobenzoylcellulose (DS 1.2) =1.2% poly(vinyl-4-aminobenzoate)= 0.7%. ... [Pg.118]

Slurry is essentially a mixture of solids and liquids. Its physical characteristics are dependent on many factors such as size and distribution of particles, concentration of solids in the liquid phase, size of the conduit, level of turbulence, temperature, and absolute (or dynamic) viscosity of the carrier. Nature offers examples of slurry flows such as seasonal floods that carry sUt and gravel. Every year during the flood season, the Nile transports massive amounts of silt over thousands of miles to the Saharan desert. To rephrase Herodotus, who once said Egypt is the gift of the NUe, one may consider that one of the most ancient civilizations was dependent on natural slurry flows for its survival. [Pg.18]

The upper limit of operation of nonequihbrium devices is set by the effects of hot carriers— naturally, under the assumption that the effects of Joule heating is controlled by proper heat sinks and by structures with high-thermal conductivity. [Pg.135]

In pulse version of MIA method the probes excite in tested object (TO) free attenuating pulses. Their carrier frequencies coincide with natural frequencies of transmitting probe vibrator loaded to the mechanical impedance Zg = / (Z -tZ,), where Z is elastic... [Pg.827]

Calcium. Calcium is the fifth most abundant element in the earth s cmst. There is no foreseeable lack of this resource as it is virtually unlimited. Primary sources of calcium are lime materials and gypsum, generally classified as soil amendments (see Calcium compounds). Among the more important calcium amendments are blast furnace slag, calcitic limestone, gypsum, hydrated lime, and precipitated lime. Fertilizers that carry calcium are calcium cyanamide, calcium nitrate, phosphate rock, and superphosphates. In addition, there are several organic carriers of calcium. Calcium is widely distributed in nature as calcium carbonate, chalk, marble, gypsum, fluorspar, phosphate rock, and other rocks and minerals. [Pg.245]

With all components in the ideal gas state, the standard enthalpy of the process is exothermic by —165 kJ (—39.4 kcal) per mole of methane formed. Biomass can serve as the original source of hydrogen, which then effectively acts as an energy carrier from the biomass to carbon dioxide, to produce substitute (or synthetic) natural gas (SNG) (see Euels, synthetic). [Pg.9]

The nature of the hormone—NP link is unclear. Although the binding is quite specific, it is sufficientiy weak, ie, binding constant 10 10 M (71), as to cast doubt upon a protective role. However, no compelling evidence for a biological function for the neurophysins, other than as hormone carriers, has been elucidated (59,72). [Pg.191]

Cell membranes are lipophilic and designed to be barriers against large anionic molecules, although there is a natural mechanism for intercellular transport of anionic oligonucleotides. In order to enhance membrane transport, antisense oligonucleotides are frequentiy modified by covalent attachment of carrier molecules or lipophilic groups. [Pg.259]
