Juice, orange

Caustic alkalis. Dilute by drinking much water, followed by vinegar, lemon or orange juice, or solutions of lactic acid or citric acid. Milk may then be given but no emetics. [Pg.1133]

Haddad, P. Vitamin C Content of Commercial Orange Juices, /. Chem. Educ. 1977, 54, 192-193. [Pg.360]

The content of ascorbic acid, in milligrams per 100 mL, in orange juice is determined by a redox titration using either 2,6-dichlorophenolindephenol or N-bromosuccinimide as the titrant. [Pg.360]

Fig. 3. (a) Flame ionization detector (fid) response to an extract of commercially processed Valencia orange juice, (b) Gas chromatography—olfactometry (geo) chromatogram of the same extract. The abscissa in both chromatograms is a normal paraffin retention index scale ranging between hexane and octadecane (Kovats index). Dilution value in the geo is the -fold that the extract had to be diluted until odor was no longer detectable at each index. [Pg.6]

The principal fmit juice and beverage markets are the United States, where 12.1 x 10 L is consumed per year followed by Canada, 5.6 x 10 L Western Europe, 1.2 X 10 L andjapan, 0.76 x 10 L. In all significant markets orange juice predominates (Eig. 2). In the United States apple juice is second, followed by grape and then grapefmit juice (12). [Pg.575]

Twenty-four years before its detection in nature PEA was first synthesized in 1876 (56) by reducing phenylacetaldehyde [122-78-1] with sodium amalgam. Then, in 1900, it was independently identified in otto of rose (57) and rose water (58). Subsequently, PEA has been identified in numerous flower oils such as ylang-ylang, narcissus, hyacinth, lily, neroH, and geranium as well as various other natural products like tea, tobacco, orange juice, beer, cigarette smoke, etc. [Pg.61]

Freeze Crystallization. Freezing may be used to form pure ice crystals, which are then removed from the slurry by screens sized to pass the fine sohds but to catch the crystals and leave behind a more concentrated slurry. The process has been considered mostly for solutions, not suspensions. However, freeze crystallization has been tested for concentrating orange juice where sohds are present (see Fruit juices). Commercial apphcations include fmit juices, coffee, beer, wine (qv), and vinegar (qv). A test on milk was begun in 1989 (123). Freeze crystallization has concentrated pulp and paper black hquor from 6% to 30% dissolved sohds and showed energy savings of over 75% compared with multiple-effect evaporation. Only 35—46 kJ/kg (15—20 Btu/lb) of water removed was consumed in the process (124). [Pg.25]

At pH 7, [H ] = [OH ] that is, there is no excess acidity or basicity. The point of neutrality is at pH 7, and solutions having a pH of 7 are said to be at neutral pH. The pH values of various fluids of biological origin or relevance are given in Table 2.3. Because the pH scale is a logarithmic scale, two solutions whose pH values differ by one pH unit have a 10-fold difference in [H ]. For example, grapefruit juice at pH 3.2 contains more than 12 times as much H as orange juice at pH 4.3. [Pg.44]

The method described above is applicable to a wide range of samples for the determination of amino acids in different matrices. For example, the amino acid composition and distribution of single enantiomers has been determined in protein hydrolysates, orange juice (Fig. 7-11), yogurt and seawater [23]. [Pg.192]

Acidic and basic household solutions. Many common household items, including vinegar, orange juice, and cola drinks, are acidic. In contrast baking soda and most detergents and cleaning agents are basic. [Pg.81]

But die Yellow Desert Rose, which includes tequila and orange juice, too, stood her in good stead—one part heart, one part gut. The kind of cocktail diat makes you diink you can sing, and lets you go where your voice takes you. [Pg.61]

Shake the liquors with ice strain and pour into a 5-ounce Collins glass over fresh ice. Fill the glass with orange juice. Top off with a drop of grenadine and garnish with pineapple, orange and lime slices. [Pg.62]

The drink is Scotch and fresh orange juice, smoky but citrusy, too, like having a cigarette with breakfast. Because it s bunnies and not rats getting the pitch now, Dewar s is promoting Scotch as carbohydrate free, and the Vamp as lower in sugar than the sweeter women s drinks. But because it s people braced on bar stools and not weight machines, that s nice but not the point. [Pg.81]

The Bombardier mixes gin with fresh citrus—both orange juice and lime—and is garnished with fresh mint. [Pg.161]
