Wind turbines Renewable energy production

Wind power is one of the most important forms of renewable energy production. The German Wind Energy Association (BWE) reported in 2013 the construction of wind turbines with a total capacity of approximately 3,000 MW in Germany. In order to operate such a plant economically, despite the high investment costs, life times of about 20 years are provided (IWES 2009). This results in high demands on the reliability of a wind turbine. [Pg.1157]

How do you add numbers in scientific notation when the exponents are not the same To answer this question, consider the amounts of energy produced by renewable energy sources in the United States. Wind-powered turbines, shown in Figure 2.7, are one of several forms of renewable energy used in the United States. Other sources of renewable energy include hydroelectric, biomass, geothermal, and solar power. In 2004, the energy production amounts from renewable sources were as follows. [Pg.42]

As mentioned for the sun, wind is a renewable source of energy and can be used efficiently in specific regions of the world. While it is the cheapest of all the renewable sources of energy, the production of electricity from wind power does not generate greenhouse gases (however, this is not the case in the construction and maintenance phase). The footprint of land-based wind turbines is small and therefore the land aronnd them can be used for other purposes. [Pg.280]
