Boiling point true

This is the ASTM D 2892 test method and corresponds to a laboratory technique defined for a distillation column having 15 to 18 theoretical plates and operating with a 5 1 reflux ratio. The test is commonly known as the TBP for True Boiling Point. [Pg.18]

Usually, product specifications for a crude distillation unit are expressed in terms of the products 15/5 or ASTM distillation curves. The prediction of a product 15/5 distillation is accomplished simply by blending the quantities of the pseudo components in the stream so as to form a true boiling point, 15/5 equivalent, distillation curve. This curve can then be converted to an ASTM type distillation using an empirical method. Figure 5 illustrates how a typical ASTM curve compares to the 15/5 curve for the same material. [Pg.85]

As most organotins decompose, boiling points of 250 °C were assumed in the absence of a "true boiling point. The values for Henry s law constant and organic carbon/water partition coefficient were all derived from EUSES unless otherwise indicated. Many azeotropic combinations exist among hydrocarbons themselves. Aromatic hydrocarbons, for example, are almost always found in petroleum fractions distilling below the true boiling point of the aromatics. Marschner and Cropper (41) accurately delineated the limits of azeotropy for benzene and toluene with saturated hydrocarbons, and Denyer et al. (11) did the same for the thiols. Consideration of such data is desirable in the design and operation of equipment for the distillation of gasoline fractions to produce specialized products. [Pg.207]

Important properties of petroleum and its fractions are measured by standardized procedures according to the API or ASTM. A particularly distinctive property is the true boiling point (TBP) curve as a function of the volume percent distilled under standardized conditions. Figure 13.19 is the TBP curve of a whole crude on which are superimposed curves of products that can be taken off sidestreams from a main distillation column, as in Figure 19.21. It is somewhat heavier than the C3-C4 polymer and the octane rating is possibly a one-half number lower on the C3 polymer. The required equipment is the same as shown in Fig. 1. When C3 motor polymer is made, however, the debutanizer and rerun columns are not required. Figure 6 shows a true-boiling-point curve of typical C3 motor polymer. When complex multicomponent mixtures are distilled, particularly those associated with oil refining, it is difficult to characterize them in terms of their components. Instead, they are characterized in terms of their boiling range, which gives some indication of the quantities of the components present. The true boiling point distillation (TBP) is probably the most useful, in which the percent distilled is recorded as a function of the boiling temperature of the mixture. For the TPB distillation, a 5 1 reflux ratio is often used with 15 theoretical stages in a laboratory characterization column (see Section III). [Pg.229]
