Triple bottom line approach

Vegetable oil-based polymers are one of the most useful polymeric materials in the context of advanced polymers in modern society. They are versatile because of their structural diversity and their ease of modification. Sectors such as agriculture, automotives, biomedical and packaging all require environmentally friendly polymers. In the civilised world of today, materials need to follow the principles of green chemistry with a triple bottom line approach in order to keep the environment clean and useful for future generations. This book therefore aims to blend the basic ideas along with advanced understanding of this important class of polymers. [Pg.343]

Sustainable materials, processes, and systems must not compromise the ability of future generations to provide for their needs while providing for the needs of the current generation. The three components of sustainability have economic, social, and environmental aspects. Organizations are often analyzed with a Triple Bottom Line approach to evaluate the social, economic, and environmental performances of a company. [Pg.11]

Compare and contrast traditional engineering design and analysis approaches with those associated with sustainable design, in particular those that go beyond the triple-bottom-line approach to include considerations of social justice and socio-technical integration,... [Pg.163]

Sustainability is defined on a triple bottom line approach in which economic sustainability, environmental sustainability and social responsibility are pursued and maximized simultaneously. [Pg.2992]

The CEO s foreword identifies that Clariant is developing a sustainable, future-proof cradle to grave ESH approach in the whole business process . The CER does not make any strong link between the three elements of the triple bottom line. [Pg.175]

A further area of attraction for these businesses was that EurepGAP offered much more than a new system of rationalized and consolidated audit. In addition, the new alliance pro-actively promoted a vision for sustainable agriculture. This vision was based around triple bottom line criteria for sustainability, integrated systems and a consensus approach to decision making... [Pg.165]

Sustainable development calls for a balanced approach, pursuing neither perfection in environmental performance nor abandoning It In the pursuit of profit. It requires the prudent use of natural resources, moving towards the triple bottom line of environmental, social and economic accountability. A strategy document was published In the UK in April 2000 to promote more sustainable construction. A full discussion of the Issues Involved is beyond the scope of this book, but the references quoted at the end of the chapter should be consulted for a wider scope than is presented here. [Pg.135]

The central and bottom straight lines are normalized with respect to a double and triple number of molecules, respectively. Analysis of the experimental dependencies shows that as the electrolyte concentration decreases, the fluctuation level approaches the value anticipated for a system of identical noninteracting particles. This trend is observed both for NaCl and HCl, 1 1 electrolytes that yield two ions per dissolved molecule, and for CaCl2, a 2 1 electrolyte that dissociates into one doubly charged and two singly charged ions. [Pg.380]
