Travel by car

Explain why it is recommended that people traveling by car in cold climates carry a candle and matches as part of emergency survival equipment. 

The data from Table 1-4 show that traveling by car (FAR = 57) is safer than rock climbing (FAR = 4000). Rock climbing produces many more fatalities per exposed hour than traveling by car. However, the rock climbers probably spend more time traveling by car than rock climbing. As a result, the statement might be correct but more data are required.

Let us explain this with an example if we say, a car goes very fast, we mean that it travels a long distance in a very short time. Thus, the speed of a car is the distance traveled by this car in a unit of time.

Some factors are constant, such as the number of cents in a dollar others are variable, such as the number of miles traveled by a car per hour, and these must be given in the statement of a problem. 

Few studies are conducted at a single location, and travel by study monitors, CRAs, physicians and auditors can amount to significant expenditure. Major companies can ameliorate such costs by negotiating special rates with airlines, rental car companies and hotel chains. Indeed, companies may be able to pass such savings on to CROs working for them. Such savings may amount to 50% of the total travel budget. 

The activities within a cell are similar to the transportation system of a city. The cars, buses, and taxis correspond to the molecules involved in reactions (or series of reactions) within a cell. The routes traveled by vehicles likewise can be compared to the reactions that occur in the life of the cell. Note particularly that many vehicles travel more than one route—for instance, cars and taxis can go almost anywhere—whereas other, more specialized modes of transportation, such as subways and streetcars, are confined to single paths. Similarly, some molecules play multiple roles, whereas others take part only in specific series of reactions. What does it mean when the speedometer on your car reads 35 miles per hour at some particular instant It does not mean, you will readily agree, that you have come exactly 35 miles in the last hour or that you can expect to travel 35 miles in the next hour. You will almost certainly slow down and speed up during different parts of your trip and your speedometer will respond accordingly. You can certainly calculate your average speed for the entire journey by dividing the number of miles travelled by the number of hours, but your speedometer readings will have been sometimes slower, sometimes faster, than this average value. 

A car starts from rest and accelerates to a speed of 100 km/h in 15s. The acceleration dur-ii this period is constant. For the next 30 minutes, the car moves ynth a constant speed of 100 km/h. At this time the driver of the car applies the brake and the car decelerates to a full stop in 10s. The variation of the speed of the car with time is shown in Figure 8.9. We are interested in determining the total distance traveled by the car and its average speed over this distance.
