SCRIMP process This Seeman Composites Resin Infusion Process (SCRIMP) is described as a gas-assist resin transfer molding process. As an example glass fiber fabrics/ thermoset vinyl ester polyester plastic and polyurethane foam panels (for insulation) are placed in a segmented tool. A vacuum is pulled with a bag so that a huge amount of plastic can be drawn into the mold (Marco process approach). Its curved roof is made separately and bonded to the box with mechanical and adhesive fastening. It is similar to various reinforced plastics molding processes. 

Plastic acrylic denture teeth are made by injection or transfer molding. Acrylic teeth have a higher strength than porcelain teeth and break less readily. However, they resist cold flow, have greater water absorption, and have higher wear rate than porcelain teeth.

Since the materials have a very soft plasticity rating, or inches of flow on spiral mold, the materials are all molded in special transfer molding presses and specially designed transfer molds. Because an acid catalyst and glass or mineral fillers are used to make the compound, these materials may have an adverse effect on the hardened steel mold with the result that there may be excessive runner and gate wear. 

The mold in RRIM is similar to resin transfer molding (RTM) (Chapter 15). In the reinforced RIM (RRIM) process reinforcements such as woven or nonwoven fabrics, short glass fibers, glass flakes, milled fibers dry reinforcement preform, etc. are placed in a closed mold. In another example, ] a problem with poor physical properties of molded fluoroplastics was overcome. Transfer molded material was found to have low modulus of elasticity above 150°C and was prone to irreversible cold flow. The solution involved embedding a metal or plastic insert as a core material in the mold. The choice of the core material depended on the end use performance requirements.
