Vacuum assistance

Resin transfer molding With vacuum assisted RTM, this process can be called infusion molding. RTM usually uses liquid TS plastics that is transferred or injected into an enclosed mold usually at low pressures of about 60 psi (410 kPa) in which reinforcement... [Pg.517]

Recently, Hologic, Inc. developed a fully automated cell block system, Cellient system (Bedford, MA), expecting to improve capture, presentation, consistency, and efficiency of cell block preparation. This system is built on ThinPrep technology with vacuum-assisted filtration to maximize cell collection. The cell block can be produced in less than an hour.39 However, the biggest concern of this methodology is the fixation issue. Cellient system adopts alcohol instead of formalin for fixation, which unfortunately creates problems for ICC analysis. [Pg.225]

A submersible pump was installed within the sump and used to remove the accumulated LNAPL and water from the sump, and to pump it to a storage tank for separation. A vacuum pump created suction, which increased the recovery rate. The effect of vacuum assistance on product recovery rates is illustrated in Figure 12.20. [Pg.376]

Dissolve 20 g of the alkaloid (use any of the above or one of its isomers or a combination) in 200 ml of 1 M methanolic KOH solution (this is made by dissolving 14 g of KOH in 250 ml of dry methanol) in a 1 liter evaporation flask (heavy walled construction). Evaporate the methanol off Add 400 ml of 8% aqueous (water) KOH solution to the residue and boil for one hour under a slow stream of nitrogen that is allowed to flow through a small orifice for exhausting purposes. Cool, acidify with dilute sulfuric acid, and shake in a separatory funnel with 1 liter of dry ether. Separate the lower aqueous layer and filter it with vacuum assist. Wash the precipitate with 20 ml of dilute sulfuric acid. This is lysergic acid store as described later in this chapter. [Pg.57]

Liquid Composite Molding (LCM) is the common name for several similar processes for the manufacturing of polymeric fiber reinforced composites. Widely used processes that belong to this class are Resin Transfer Molding (RTM), Vacuum-Assisted Resin Injection (VARI), and Structural-Reaction Injection Molding (S-RIM). [Pg.359]

The procedure for micromolding in capillaries (MIMIC) for fabricating the microstructure of polymeric materials has been reported [155-157], Vacuum-assisted MIMIC was later reported. These methods are essentially casting a soft curable polymer against a mold [158],... [Pg.20]

An even more feasible approach seems to be that of Moutos et al., who used 104-pm sized, commercially available PGA multifilaments to weave into 3D structures [210], As shown in Fig. 11, interlocking of multiple layers led to porous scaffolds with 70-75% porosity. For cell growth, a composite structure was fabricated by vacuum-assisted infusion of a hydrogel. The resulting scaffolds had mechanical properties similar to those of artricular cartilage [210],... [Pg.186]
