Littermates were equally divided into vehide or drug treatment groups. Methylphenidate salt was given ip at a dose of 3 mg/kg (base), 30 mins prior to training. However, others believe industry can learn some valuable lessons from the report. For one thing, more companies need to move from response to deterrence mode, Sem says. The first deterrent, and the most powerful and inexpensive solution, is employee awareness training, yet it is often overlooked. 

Other obvious steps are ensuring that gates are locked and well lit, and that outsiders are not permitted on site, or into sensitive areas. I often test security awareness by trying to gain access to control rooms, Sem says. In some cases, until staff have been adequately sensitized and trained, I have been allowed to walk in without question. ... 

Security requires looking more closely into hiring and training practices. Companies are getting much better on this front, particularly in contractor hiring, which had been a real Achilles heel two years ago, Sem says. 

The interior of bulk samples can be revealed by fracture, freeze fracture, or (cryo-/ultra)microtoming. These techniques are well established in electron microscopy and require substantial training to ensure that the knives used do not introduce scratches and other artefacts. Unlike in SEM or TEM analysis, however, it is very well possible to analyze the trimmed specimen instead of the very thin sections removed (cryofacing). This loosens the constraint of ultrathin sections in many applications. Care has to be taken that the sample to be imaged is not significantly thicker or thinner than the calibration grating used for scanner calibration (see Sect. 2.2.5)... 

The Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS) requirements to do with offshore training are described and discussed in Table 7.1 (some formatting changes have been made). Additional information to do with offshore training is provided by the American Petroleum Institute (API) (2001). 

SEMS refers to many of the well-established API documents to do with training. 

Other features require that the operator enable employee participation in mitigating or eliminating hazards, a feature missing from API s RP 75, and ensure that all employees have the right to report safety or environmental violations or unsafe work conditions to BSEE and request BSEE inspection. SEMS II also requires that operators specify one person on each facility who has Ultimate Work Authority for operational safety. Finally it requires enhanced training programs and audits of SEMS programs conducted by independent third parties who meet specified qualification criteria. 

SEM/EDX analysis of stone samples 11 and 24 was able to identify the composition as iron chromite ( 11) and chromic oxide ( 24), respectively. Petrographic techniques were unable to determine the compositions. However, the physical characteristics and through consultation of various reference materials, a trained microscopist could identify these stones. 

The cell Mechanism represents the safety management system itself such as SEMS or a Safety Case. The cell below this—Competence— represents the ability of individuals within the organization to execute the management system. The plan will not be effective if individuals are not able to implement it. Therefore, items such as hiring policies and training are included in this part of the quadrant. 

The agency has opened a National Offshore Training Center for its own people. The intent of this center is to train inspectors on the principles of SEMS. 

Designated and qualified personnel means empioyees (not contractors) that are knowiedgeabie of your program, and have actuai work experience and training in impiementing and auditing a SEMS or a simiiar program in an offshore oii and gas environment.
