Trademarks

Designations used by companies to distinguish their products are often claimed as trademarks. In all instances where John Wiley Sons, Tnc, is aware of a claim, the product names appear in initial capital or allcapttal letters, Readers, however, should contact the appropriate companies for more complete information regarding trademarks and registration.

Note MM-i- is derived from the public domain code developed by Dr. Norm an Allinger, referred to as M.M2( 1977), and distributed by the Quantum Chemistry Program Exchange (QCPE). The code for MM-t is not derived from Dr. Allin ger s present version of code, which IS trademarked MM2 . Specifically. QCMPOlO was used as a starting point Ibr HyperChem MM-t code. The code was extensively modified and extended over several years to include molecular dynamics, switching functuins for cubic stretch terms, periodic boundary conditions, superimposed restraints, a default (additional) parameter scheme, and so on.

The first industrial hardboard was developed by W. Mason in the mid-1920s he found that a mat of wet fiber pressed in a hot press would produce a self-bonded flat panel with good strength, durabiUty, and stabiUty. The product was patented in 1928, trademarked as Masonite, and commercial production began. Over time several other processes for producing hardboards have been developed from modifications of the original process. Brief descriptions of these processes foUow and a flow chart of the process is shown in Figure 5. 

The first artificial abrasive, siUcon carbide [409-21 -2] SiC, was produced by Edward Acheson in 1891 (19). This invention led to the formation of the Carbomndum Company. The registered trademark, Carbomndum, is essentially synonymous with siUcon carbide. 

Throughout the remainder of this article the term homopolymer refers to Delrin acetal resin manufactured and sold by Du Pont the term copolymer refers to Celcon acetal copolymer resins (registered trademark of Hoechst Celanese Corporation). 

The product secondary alcohols from paraffin oxidation are converted to ethylene oxide adducts (alcohol ethoxylates) which are marketed by Japan Catalytic Chemical and BP Chemicals as SOFTANOL secondary alcohol ethoxylates. Union Carbide Chemical markets ethoxylated derivatives of the materials ia the United States under the TERGlTOL trademark (23).
