Toluene toxic hazard properties

Properties Colorless liquid. Bp 119C, d 0.873 (20/ 20C), refr index 1.4153 (25C), flash p 80F (26.6C) (TCC). Miscible with water, ethanol, toluene, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, hexane, and ether. Hazard Flammable, moderate fire risk. Toxic by ingestion and inhalation. [Pg.814]

CSPE-based compositions for coatings are traditionally produced with application of aromatic solvents (xylene, toluene, etc.) characterized by high toxicity and explosion and fire hazards. These properties interfere with application of conventional coatings. Moreover, the polymer concentration in such compositions cannot exceed 20%. [Pg.179]

Benzene. Benzene can damage bone marrow it causes various blood disorders, and its effects may lead to leukemia. Benzene is considered a serious carcinogenic hazard. It is absorbed rapidly through the skin and also poisons the liver and kidneys. In addition, benzene is flammable. Because of its toxicity and its carcinogenic properties, benzene should not be used in the laboratory you should use some less dangerous solvent instead. Toluene is considered a safer alternative solvent in procedures that specify benzene. [Pg.588]

In this classification benzene is included in the first group, which is that of the highly hazardous compounds. Consequently in most countries the use of benzene is restricted to those processes where it is essential as a reactant or originates from natural products, such as petroleum derivatives and gasoline. Other aromatic compounds, such as toluene and xylene, also present a relatively high toxicity, but not as much as that of benzene and they do not exhibit strong carcinogenic properties. [Pg.71]
