Thermoplastic polyurethane films

Thermoplastic polyurethane film and sheet are especially well suited for adhesive applications. Such films are offered in transparent, translucent, or opaque colours. They are available in many thicknesses (OT-1 mm). These can be bonded to various substrates by using heat and pressure alone. [Pg.241]

Figure 6 24 DEA results for thermoplastic polyurethane films with various metals in the chain extender (a) comparison between c(f) and M"(f) spectra recorded at 25 ""C (b) M (f) plot for a polyurethane sample PU(Cu ) placed in a brass electrode capacitor. Isothermal scans were performed between -55 °C and 40 °C, in 5 ° increments. The progressive upshift of various relaxations with increasing temperature of the scan is a typical behavior. Blends of the commodity polymers with more specialty polymers are limited although many specific examples exist in the patent/open literature. In the design of polymer blends for specific application needs, countless opportunities can be envisioned. Examples may include PE/poly(s-caprolactone) (PCL) blends for biodegradable applications (proposed), polyolefin (PO)/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVAL) blends for antistatic films, PO/silicone rubber blends for biomedical applications, PO/thermoplastic polyurethane TPU (or other thermoplastic elastomers) for applications similar to plasticized PVC, functionalized PO/thermoset blends. [Pg.1174]

The main idea behind this new approach consists of thermoforming a thermoplastic or polyurethane film as part of the moulding sequence. By using a vacuum effect, this film adheres perfectly and smoothly to the mould cavity, without any creases or wrinkle formation. The mould is equipped with a dedicated frame device, specifically designed to hold the film. A heating system ensures that the film reaches the desired temperature prior to the thermoforming phase and subsequent injection of polyurethane into the mould. [Pg.130]

Using the experimental data obtained for the thermoplastic polyurethanic elastomer based on 4,4 -diphenyl diisocyanate in the temperature range from 323 to 238 K the values of and y have been calculated using Jurkov s equation. Table 3.111. As seen in this Table, in the range of positive temperatures, the fracture of the polyurethane films takes place at the relatively low stresses. [Pg.162]

Yellowing in thermoplastic polyurethanes can be retarded by adding UV-stabilizers, antioxidants and/or reduction agents. Proven stabilizers are the combinations of a phenolic antioxidant with an absorber of the hydroxybenzophenone or the hydroxy-benzotriazole type, and the three-fold combination phenolic antioxidanf/UV absorber/sterically hindered amine. This has allowed significant improvements in the light resistance of thin cast films made from aromatic polyester urethane [86]. [Pg.315]

As the substrate sheet, a thin plastic film or tightly packed nonwoven cloth, such as polyester spanbond nonwoven cloth of approximately 0.15 mm, is used. A synthetic rubber, such as styrene-butadiene rubber or thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer, is used as a binder. In addition, a surfactant for hydrophilicity, an antioxidant for prevention of thermodeformation, and a silica-type inorganic filler for prevention of tackiness are used. For the superabsorbent polymer particles, various synthetic polymers, for example, polyacrylate and polyvinyl-type superabsorbent polymers, can be used. For this apphcation, the particle sizes are an important parameter, because they polymer is required to be within the coating layer, and as the absorption rate is no retarded, quickly protrude from the layer when swelling. [Pg.1306]

Various polyurethane types can be fabricated as elastomeric film and sheet. The B.F. Goodrich Chemical Company supplies a family of thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers ( Estane ) suitable for making such products, and formerly marketed Tuftane film and sheet made from these polymers. Currently, the Lord Corporation continues the manufacture and marketing of Tuftane film and sheet. Stevens Molded Products has... [Pg.373]
