Bitumen modifiers can be synthetic polymers, natural rubber (latex) and some chemical additives such as sulfur and certain organo-metallic compounds. Fibres and fillers (inorganic powders) are not considered to be bitumen modifiers. Table 3.16 gives some typical bitumen modifiers, as well as significant improvements to asphalts. Polymers are the most common type of bitumen modifiers, with thermoplastic elastomers being the most popular polymer. 

Composites obtained by mixing magnetic asymmetric nanoparticles with LC polymers open new pathways in the field of aeation of the magnetic filler inorganic particles oriented in polymer anisotropic matrices to improve the magnetic properties of the composite materials (Chapter 8.08). 

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is also widely employed, in its simplest bright-field mode, as a tool for direct visualization of the nanocomposite structure of polymer nanocomposites. This is possible because there exists sufficient contrast for the transmitted electrons between the polymer matrix and most fillers (inorganic particles, carbon in nanotubes or graphite, and almost all oxides) without polymer staining. Electrolytes and Fillers Inorganic salts such as sodium sulfate are added to laundry formations to bring them up to uniform cleaning strength and to provide appropriate measurable quantities for addition in laundering by the consumer. These materials may be considered fillers but also are electrolytes in solution that serve to enhance to some degree the migration and action of the surfactant as well as improve the physical characteristics of the product.
