Teflon Tape Applications

In particular, if a latex is to be used for coatings, adhesives, or film applications, no silicone-base stopcock greases should be used on emulsion polymerization equipment. Although hydrocarbon greases are not completely satisfactory either, there are very few alternatives. Teflon tapes, sleeves, and stoppers may be useful, although expensive. [Pg.32]

Hydrogen easily diffuses through the smallest cracks and spaces, and it is important to perform hydrostatic tests on as many of the components and connections as possible and to use pipe dope and tape that is compatible with hydrogen. Teflon tape is color coded for specific applications. Yellow tape is the color... [Pg.145]

Teflon tape should be used on tapered pipe thread where the seal is formed in the thread area. Tapered pipe thread is commonly found in applications where fittings are not routinely taken apart (e.g., general building piping... [Pg.129]

The mechanical equipment shall be categorized, documented and qualified in the same manner as described above. Particular emphasis shall be placed on the applications of highly susceptible components in radiation environments, such as the use of teflon or teflon tape in mechanical equipment. Applications of these highly susceptible components shall be identified and evaluated for acceptability. [Pg.266]

Teflon is best known for its use in cookware, but its use in this area followed original industrial applications in gaskets, sealers, tape, and electrical insulation. These applications were a direct result of the use of PTFE for military purposes during World War II. [Pg.276]

B. Pipe Joints. Good joints suitable for vacuum or pressure applications can be made by means of tapered pipe thread joints in heavy-walled tubing. Unlike all of the joints discussed so far, the seal is made in the threads of this joint. The threaded portions of both the male and female pipe joint are tapered, and as a result the inner and outer threads are wedged into each other when they are screwed together (Fig. 10.9). To achieve a good seal the male pipe threads are wrapped with two layers of Teflon pipe tape, which serves the role of sealant and... [Pg.116]

Tapes. A great variety of tapes find application in electrical equipment. Some tapes contain filler materials in macroscopic form such as glass fibers, mica flakes, and cloth others have finely divided filler particles or no fillers at all. In the heavily filled materials the polymeric binders are present in small fractions, and the major emphasis may be on their adhesive capabilities rather than on their properties as dielectric materials. Most of the polymers used in tapes have already been mentioned in connection with other insulation applications, for example, polyesters, aromatic polyamides, polyimides, and polypropylene. Other polymers frequently used for electrical tapes are vinyls, including poly(vinyl fluoride) these are particularly well suited as conformable tapes. Polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon TFE) has also been fabricated into tape constructions, frequently in combination with adhesives to provide a bondable material. [Pg.529]

Other polymer carriers such as cellulose triacetate, Aclar (a fluorinated Mylar ), Teflon, and cellophane have been used for very specific applications. We have had excellent success with the silicone-coated polyester for a number of binder/solvent/plasticizer systems with a wide variety of materials. A cost-competitive and environment-friendly coated paper carrier has been evaluated and described by one of the authors in a recent publication. These paper carriers can be recycled easily and yield tapes that are equivalent to the polymer carriers. [Pg.102]
