Members of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN), Malaysia included, have yet to formulate common rules for dmg regulation. Nonetheless, efforts have been made towards harmonization in terms of voluntary standards. Through the ASEAN Technical Cooperation Project in Pharmaceuticals, a number of reference substances and guidelines have been developed (17). Furthermore, agreements made for the ASEAN Free Trade Area have harmonized and reduced import tariffs on a number of goods, including pharmaceutical raw materials and finished products.

Technology transfer specialists, in contrast, are more focused on business aspects. They need to be able to work closely with and understand the work of the industrial property people, to help them check on the patent applications filed by the institution. But they also, and more importantly, must follow market trends involving the portfolio of patents and applications, orient the preparation of technical cooperation, detect and contact potential partners for future technology transfers, negotiate and draft contractual instruments applicable to each case, monitor the partnerships formed, deal with external law offices specializing in intellectual property, and act in cases of breach of contractual clauses. In relation to this last item, when a contractual infraction or other compliance problem is noted, a choice must be made as to what action to take. Will it be by judicial action or some form of alternative dispute resolution ...

An integrated process approach for inkjet applications is not only a substitute for existing processes but also a method that enables the creation of new products and markets. With that goal in mind, technical cooperation initiatives have been undertaken to assist each other. One such initiative is the drug registration information exchange amongst licensing authorities of the ASEAN countries. 

The development of drug registration may progress along the lines of technical cooperation in harmonising the drug registration requirement. An example of this is the development of a common application form and product dossier. 

Promotes technical cooperation with Member States, in particular developing countries, to strengthen their capabilities and capacities in the area of chemical safety. 

Promote technical cooperation within industry to recommend appropriate use of fungicides through FRAC.
