Boil over a gentle fire, till the water is half consumed strain, and add, of clarified honey, two pounds boil to three pints, and dissolve in every ounce of this liquor one grain of tartarized antimony. 

Submuriate of mercury six drachms and two scruples, Tartarized antimony, twenty eight grains. 

Dissolve the tartarized antimony in the boiling distilled water then add the wine.

Barclay s AntibUious Pills. Extract of colocynth, 2 drachms extract of jalap, 1 drachm almond soap, drachms gniacum, 3 drachms tartarized antimony, 6 grains oil of juniper, 4 drops oil of caraway. 4 drops oil of rosemary, 4 drops. 

Potassium Antimonyl Tartrate—Tartarated antimony—Tartar emetic—Antimonii et potassii tartras (U. S.)—Antimonium tar-taratum (Br.)—(SbO)KC.H.O —323—is prepared by boiling a. mixture of 3 pts. SbiO. and 4 pts. HKCiH.O.in H.O for an hour. 

Actions and Uses.— Diaphoretic and febrifuge for the dog. Chiefly used in the preparation of tartarated antimony. 

Synonyms.—Potassium-Antimony Tartrate Tartrate of Potassium and Antimony Tartar Emetic Emetic Tartar Tartarized Antimony. 

Mix the oxide of antimony and acid tartrate of potash with sufficient distilled water to form a paste, and set aside for twenty-four hours then add the remainder of the water, and boil for a quarter of an hour, stirring frequently. Filter, and set aside the clear liquid which contains the tar tarated antimony, to crystallize. Pour off the mother liquor, evaporate to one third, and set aside, that more crystals may form. Dry the crystals (tartarated antimony) on filtering paper at the temperature of the air. 

Incompatibles.—Mineral and vegetable acids metallic and ammoniacal salts tartarated antimony. 

Tartarated Antimony, in powder. i drachm. Camphor, in powder. i drachm. Nitrate of Potash, in powder. . 2 drachms. Common Mass.a sufficiency. 

Actions and Uses.—Similar to those of, but not so likely to cause local irritation as, tartarated antimony. Employed as a febrifuge and diaphoretic for the dog. 

Modes of Application.—Internally —As a cathartic and emetic, dissolved in tepid water. Sometimes half doses of chloride of sodium and sulphate of magnesia are mixed with ginger, pimento, or some other aromatic and treacle such a mixture will often be voluntarily drunk by cattle and sheep. Croton oil, oil of turpentine, and calomel, may be added to common salt, to increase its cathartic and anthelmintic action and mustard, sulphate of zinc, sulphate of copper, or tartarated antimony, may be combined with it to ensure its prompt action as an emetic. As a tonic and stomachic, it should be sprinkled over the animal s food, either in the state of powder or in solution. Externally —A lotion consisting of one pound of common salt dissolved in a gallon of cold water. This lotion should be applied during, or immediately after, the solution of the salt.
