Economic Aspects. When trimellitic anhydride was introduced in semicommercial quantities in 1962, it was priced at 1.19/kg. The price was reduced to 0.55/kg as it became available in commercial quantities in 1968. The mid-1994 price was quoted as 2.31/kg from Amoco, fob, the JoHet, Illinois plant. A price history is given in Table 32. Although trimellitic anhydride production and sales figures are not available, the pubUshed U.S. Tariff Commission s production data for trimeUitate esters provides data for the trimellitic anhydride demand trend in the United States, since the largest single use of trimellitic anhydride is for the trimeUitate esters (115). These data are given in Table 32. [Pg.497]

Economic Aspects. There is little evidence of large-scale demand for either quinoline or isoquinoline in 1996. The U.S. Tariff Commission reports no longer show separate production or sales data for any quinoline derivative. A number of these compounds are available as fine chemicals representative examples are found in Table 2. The principal suppHer of quinoline and quinoline still residue is Koppers Chemical. [Pg.393]

The principal uses of methyl chloride, as reported by the U.S. Tariff Commission, are given in Table 5. More recent analyses by the ChemicalM.arketing Reporter the breakdown in 1989 and show significant changes in the end use pattern. [Pg.516]

Data on the production, sales, and value of synthetic coumarin were pubhshed by the U.S. Tariff Commission until 1967 (Table 4). Later data are not available because the number of producers dropped to three or fewer. In 1992, Rhone-Poulenc was the only coumarin producer both ia the United States and in Western Europe. Commercial quantities of coumarin have also been produced in China and, to a lesser extent, in the former Soviet Union. [Pg.321]

In 1971, 3 million kg of methyl parathion were imported into the United States (U.S. Tariff Commission 1972). There was a decline in imports in the mid-1970s with levels of 499,000 kg in 1972 and only 40,000 kg in 1975 (HSDB 1999). By 1980, this downward trend had reversed, and imports of methyl parathion were up to 413,000 kg (USITC 1981). [Pg.139]

The other polyethyleneglycol compounds (no. 63-71) are also industrial chemicals which are specific to a single source and which are traceable to that source. Identification of 1,2-bis (2-chloroethoxy) ethane in the river water near Philadelphia initiated a search for a possible source. According to the 1974 U.S. Tariff Commission Report (10), one of the companies in the area is the sole commercial producer of this compound, and holds a patent for its production (28). Similarity, l-(2-chlorethoxy) 2-phenoxy-ethane, bis (2-chloroethyl) ether, and compounds 68,69, and 70 are produced or patented by the same company. [Pg.84]

Commercial production of 4-chloro-ort/2o-toluidine began in Germany in 1924 (Uebelin Pletscher, 1954) and was first reported in the United States in 1939 (Tariff Commission, 1940). It has been sold as both the free amine and the hydrochloride salt (Tariff Commission, 1940, 1945). Production of both forms has been discontinued in most countries (Stasik, 1988 Environmental Protection Agency, 1988). [Pg.325]

One of the Tariff Commission s reports which is very valuable to chemists is Synthetic Organic Chemicals, U.S. Production and Sales. It is an annual volume which comprises three major sections chemical raw materials, cyclic intermediates, and finished synthetic organic chemical products. The most recent report (Report 206, Second Series) may be purchased from GPO for 1. [Pg.184]

Market research contributes to all functions of enterprise, from laboratory to sales. Four specific cases are outlined to illustrate some of the many methods avoilable for obtaining market information. The contributions of domestic journals, government publications, foreign journals, and other sources are analyzed. The significance of one-time publications is discussed with particular reference to congressional hearings, court actions, and the activities of the Tariff Commission. [Pg.117]

The major journals of greatest circulation must present that information which is of greatest interest to most readers. Such chemicals are easily named soda ash, caustic soda, the mineral acids, benzene, phthalic anhydride, aniline, phenol (90 are given in Table I). About 59% of all market news relates to these 90 chemicals. Almost any three of the ten leading journals will contribute information on most of them. The industry report of the Office of Domestic Commerce, Chemicals and Drugs, and the Facts for Industry series of the Tariff Commission and the Bureau of the Census will also contribute information. [Pg.123]

For exhaustive reviews relating to chemicals, it is difficult to surpass the publications of the Tariff Commission. For instance, the Tariff Hearings of 1929 and 1947 are indispensable sources of information the Trade Agreement Digest which appeared in November 1946, and the Summaries of Tariff Information made available 2 years later are unique in the statistical literature. [Pg.124]

There are three major sources of chemical statistics United States Tariff Commission, for productions and sales statistics on organic chemicals and plastic materials Bureau of the Census, for production and shipments of inorganic chemicals and Bureau of Mines, for coal chemicals. Selected chemicals are reported on a monthly basis, while hundreds are covered annually. Other sources of chemical statistics are such agencies as the Alcohol Tax Unit, Tennessee Valley Authority, and Bureau of Labor Statistics. The publications of these agencies are discussed in this paper. [Pg.3]

Consumption data for chemicals can also be obtained regularly in the various government releases put out by Department of Commerce, Tariff Commission, Bureau of Mines, and Department of Agriculture, as well as the chemical sections of NPA and DPA. [Pg.88]
