Tape production

Pressure sensitive labels and tapes for the consumer markets form a very significant portion of the PSA industry. Whereas the original products were rather simple in construction and use, today s products often perform unique functions that result from more sophisticated assembly of a label or tape product. Examples of these unique functions include the monitoring of food or drug storage conditions, or the ability to monitor the charge status of a battery. [Pg.522]

Polymers containing long alkyl side chains, typically between 16 and 22 carbon atoms in length, have been used extensively as low adhesion backsizes for PSA tape products for many years. The general structure of such polymers is shown schematically in Fig. 8. The alkyl side chains are attached through a bridging group, R, to the polymer backbone, and the backbone may contain comonomers,... [Pg.550]

Pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) based on acrylic, natural rubber and silicone are employed primarily for ease of application. To name Just a few applications, PSAs bond decals to surfaces, interior decorative surfaces to interior panels, interior trim pieces in place directly or hook and loop tape for the same purpose, structural shims in place during manufacturing and acoustic (sound deadening) materials to body skin interior surfaces. Tape products with pressure-sensitive adhesive on one or both surfaces are used for such functions as cargo compartment sealing, as a fluid barrier to prevent spills and leaks in the lavatories and... [Pg.1185]

In a Downstream Decomposing facility not the subject of this example, intentional chemistry is performed as ammonium dichromate is heated to decomposition to make chromium dioxide, which is used in the production of magnetic tape products. In the Upstream Feeds facility under study, physical processing is performed as ammonium dichromate is fed through a screw conveyor. The Preliminary Screening Method is to be used as a first-cut determination whether chemical reactivity hazards will need to be managed in the physical processing facility. [Pg.138]

Fully understanding this accident requires understanding why the error in the roll rate filter constant was introduced in the load tape, why it was not found during the load tape production process and internal review processes, why it was not found during the extensive independent verification and validation effort applied to this software, and why it was not detected during operations at the launch site—in other words, why the safety control structure was ineffective in each of these instances. [Pg.470]

The production of oriented PP slit tapes is complicated by the tape s tendency to split or fibrillate randomly into tiny fibrils, damaging the quality of the final woven tape product. Typically, HOPE or calcium carbonate additions are used to fight random fibrillation, but these can change the resin rheology and/or reduce the "hand feel" quality of the woven tape. One additive... [Pg.193]

Monofilament and multifilament woven fabrics are generally made from PET, the use of monofilament giving the better permeabihty, whereas multifilament is used for higher strength reinforcement. SHt film, flat-tape fabrics are usually PP materials, which are quite strong but they form a fabric that has relatively poor permeability. Alternatively, fabrics made with fibriUated-tape yarns have better permeability and more uniform interstice openings than flat-tape products. [Pg.292]

The first step in the manufacture of a recording media product actually occurs weU before the coating commences research and development. The various chemists involved in the development effort determine the appropriate master formulation for a tape product of given performance parameters. Once this has been achieved, the formulation is then passed onto the manufacturing side for full-scale production. [Pg.1579]

These solvents are not required in the final tape product. Accordingly, they are typically evaporated off the tape during the drying process. Many companies collect the solvent laden air and route it to some form of solvent recovery. Here the solvents are recovered using a distillation process. This is an environmental friendlyprocess and typicaUyyields solvents ofbetter quality than those originally purchased... [Pg.1580]
