Tape microstructure

Microfabrication of the parallel channels was performed by mechanical surface cutting of metal tapes [31]. In the case of aluminum alloys, ground-in monocrystalline diamonds were used [45]. In the case of iron alloys, ceramic micro tools have to be used owing to the incompatibility of diamonds with that material. Such a microstructured platelet stack is provided with top and cover plates, diffusion bonded and connected to suitable fittings for the inlet and withdrawal ducts by electron beam welding (Figure 3.9). [Pg.268]

Once the structural support layers have been fabricated by extrusion or EPD for tubular cells or by tape casting or powder pressing for planar cells, the subsequent cell layers must be deposited to complete the cell. A wide variety of fabrication methods have been utilized for this purpose, with the choice of method or methods depending on the cell geometry (tubular or planar, and overall size) materials to be deposited and support layer material, both in terms of compatibility of the process with the layer to be deposited and with the previously deposited layers, and desired microstructure of the layer being deposited. In general, the methods can be classified into two very broad categories wet-ceramic techniques and direct-deposition techniques. [Pg.256]

In the literature, there has been no report about production of functionally graded SiAION ceramics by tape casting. The main advantage of this method with respect to others is that continuous change in composition, microstructure and mechanical properties can be obtained by stacking controlled layer thicknesses of different tape compositions. [Pg.167]

Microstructures of the two GPS-ed silicon nitride materials (a) SN-F (not seeded, cold pressed), (b) SN-C (seeded, tape cast). Plasma etching highlights the epitaxial growth of P-sialon on P-Si3N4 cores (indicated by the arrows). [Pg.539]

Thin green tapes are cast and microstructured by milling. Alternatively, laser machining or photolithography may be applied [96], Rectangles of the desired size were blanked from these tapes. According to the information given above,... [Pg.31]

The conventional way to obtain ceramic microstructures is to prepare a feedstock or a slurry, fluid or plastic molding, injection molding or casting (CIM, HPIM and tape casting), demolding, debinding and sintering. Most ceramic materials will... [Pg.12]

Sol-gel processes are also suitable for lanthanide oxide formation, as could be shown by the use of Tb(acac)3 and Dy(OBu- )3 in acetylacetone" . Tb203 crack- and pine-hole-free, dense and smooth microstructured buffer layers were produced on nickel tapes by a reel-to-reel continuous sol-gel process. The authors report that the film properties can be strongly influenced by solution components, temperature, time and atmosphere. Nanocrystalline mesoporous dysprosium oxide Dy203 with narrow monomodal pore size distribution can be approached by a combined sol-gel process with a surfactant-assisted templating technique . The spherical Dy203 nanoparticles were formed with aggregations. [Pg.1000]

A related bipolar dodecane possessing A-benzyloxycarbonyl-L-phenylalanine terminal units has been shown [24] to form bundles of braided tapes in a hexane/EtOAc mixture. In order to probe the function of the urethane moieties, deprotection afforded the corresponding bis(a-aminoamide), which gave solids lacking any microstructural character. Bolaphiles composed of straight chain alkane termini have been reported [25] to afford self-assembled supramolecular structures in water. [Pg.384]

Microstructures and morphology of the anode cermet before and after reduction were investigated by the S-4700 scanning electronic microscope. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was used to confirm the green tape sintering parameters by TAS-100 TGA. Porosities of the Ni-GDC anode were examined by Archimedes method. [Pg.192]
