Some members of the Liliaceae accumulate free azetidine-2-carboxylic acid in a much higher concentration than that found to be lethal to mung bean seedlings, but it is not incorporated into their proteins. Fowden (43) postulated that these plants either had a proline-incorporating system which was more specific than that found in other species, or some subcellular mechanism operated to prevent the homolog from reaching the sites involved in protein synthesis. Data which supported the first suggestion were subsequently obtained (116). 

Results and Discussion. Of the 12 samples of starch graft copolymer synthesized, half were hydrolyzed to anionic polyelectrolytes. Synthesis data on these 6 samples are given in Table 2. These particular samples were chosen for hydrolysis because the samples can be intercompared to see the effect of synthesis variables on ultimate product properties. Samples 5, 8, and 11 have the same mole ratio of cerium ion to starch backbone, N, in their reaction mixture. Samples 7, 8, and 9 all have the same refctable mass per starch molecule,... 

Other lignins can be reacted with this chemistry. Table 7 shows synthesis data for the preparation of poly(lignin-g-(1-amido-ethylene)) from several different lignins. Sample 1 is a kraft pine lignin grafted in a reaction coinitiated with sodium chloride.

Six ZSM-5 samples were synthesized from gels containing the whole series of alkali cations, added in form of chloride, as described in procedure B. Synthesis data, principal properties and analyses are summarized in Tables VI and VII. 

With these guidelines we synthesized a series of meta-substituted analogues of the lead compound 1 with alkylamide and alkylsulfonamide substituents. A full analysis of the SAR that was developed during this optimization process can be found in [14]. In 1993, PE Apphed Biosystems released the 433A, which is essentially a 431A with an external computer for storage of cycles, peptide sequences, and completed synthesis data. The 433A also has the capabUity of measuring the Fmoc deprotections by conductivity monitoring, which is discussed later in this section.

To move data effectively, bidirectional interface between the analytical instruments and the reaction workbook module is needed to provide a mechanism to submit the libraries for analysis and to integrate the resulting data with the synthesis data. The data could be transferred and collected in the reaction workbook module where a chemist can review the data for integrity and forward it to corporate data repositories. A fully automated system that can review the analytical data and identify the library members that pass selection criteria would greatly enhance the throughput of the validation system.

Manage synthesis data and produce synthesis reports. 

The ultimate control of an automated synthesizer is provided by a processor that translates the conunands from the user into a series of signals to actuate the various electromechanical devices that are used to perform the synthesis. In addition to this processor, the system can include a computer workstation that performs all the user interface functions. Once the synthesis information is downloaded from the workstation, the instrument can independently perform the synthesis using its internal processor and the workstation can be used for synthesis data management or other applications. 

Because of the high cost of synthesis, it is always best to start with the simplest possible starting material, although it must be kept in mind that the most expensive factor in synthesizing is the time spent for the synthesis, data collection and prehminaiy trials.
